THE latest community news from Llanidloes
Coffee morning
THERE will be a coffee morning in aid of Llanidloes Dial a Ride at St Idloes Masonic Lodge (next to the Mount Lane car park) on Saturday, 28 July, 10.30am to 12.30pm. There will also be a raffle.
Scarecrow festival
THE Upper Severn Scarecrow Festival from Glan y Nant to Hafren forest in aid of the Wales Air Ambulance will be held from Friday, 27 to Tuesday, 31 July.
Scarecrows of all types will be on display and there will be a donation point in Glan y Nant.
Sponsored walk
A 15-mile sponsored canal walk was undertaken earlier this month to raise funds for Powys Animal Welfare Shop Llanidloes.
The sum of £501 was raised for the shop and to help people of Llanidloes pay for unexpected vets’ bills, in memory of a volunteer in the shop, Sam Davies.
Thanks were given to Jan and Rolf Ewing, Billie May Evans, Janine the volunteer manager, and to everyone who supports the shop and gave sponsorship.
Inner Wheel
AT their June meeting, members reluctantly decided to disband the group.
Decreasing numbers, and the age of members, mean it was becoming difficult to operate.
Receiving its charter in 1985, the club has, in the last 33 years, supported many local, national and international charities through fundraising activities whilst enjoying the friendship and comradeship that comes with belonging to a worldwide organisation.
Members would like to thank all those who have given their support in so many ways over the years and also the Cambrian News for printing reports and promoting events.
Thanks also go to the various establishments which have hosted the club’s monthly meetings.
The Bra Bank at Llanidloes Pharmacy will no longer operate; special thanks to all the staff who helped raise funds for the charity and reduce landfill.
Members were pleased to make final donations to: Llanidloes Dial-A-Ride, Palliative Care Unit, Llanidloes Scouts, Llanidloes Girl Guides, Day Care Centre Maes-y-Wennol, Wales Air Ambulance and the Northern Cleft Foundation.
The last task as a club was to cook over 120 breakfasts for participants of the Rotary Across Wales Walk and members are looking forward to having afternoon tea together in July.
