Summer exhibition
THE summer exhibition by The Quilt Association has got off to a flying start at the Minerva Arts Centre.
During the first week of the exhibition, called ‘Welsh Connections/Cysylltiadau Cymraeg’, there have already been hundreds of visitors from the local area and from all over the world.
Of particular interest this year are the locally made quilts, which have recently been donated to the Quilt Association’s collection of antique quilts.
These include, firstly, the Benjamin Davies Quilt, a flannel patchwork quilt made by Benjamin Davies of Ffynongarreg, Bwlch y Sarnau.
He was the son of William and Sarah Davies and the quilt was donated by a family member in 2017.
Also on show is the Glyn Farm Quilt, a patchwork quilt made near Llanidloes and donated in 2018 by a descendant of the Thomas family who lived at Glyn Farm during the 19th Century.
Also featured this year are quilts by contemporary textile artists Bethan Ash, Deborah O’Hare and members of the Cwilt Cymru group.
All of these live and work in Wales, hence the title of the exhibition.
The exhibition runs from Tuesday to Saturday until 8 September from 10.30am until 4.30pm.
