Rotary

AT its meeting on Wednesday, 10 October, Llanidloes Rotary Club was addressed by Stephen Turner, district environmental officer, who praised the support which the Rotary Club and local schools had given to the Mission in a Bottle project.

Litter clearance had been carried out on half of the 220 miles of the Severn Way.

On a more global scale the ESRAG section of Rotary was adding its weight to the campaign to halt the annual production of 300 million tons of plastic, which was threatening the environment, including human and animal health. The Global Gardens Initiative was on track to plant one million trees on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjero to help to tackle climate change.

Also at the meeting was Philip Stallard, Powys council environmental officer, who stressed the importance of these campaigns, pointing out that local initiatives such as Free Water at the Point of Need were part of the effort to combat environmental degradation.
