Concert

THERE will be a concert at St Idloes Church, on Saturday, 18 May, at 7.30pm.

The Ridgeway Chorale, a small chamber choir from Tring, Hertfordshire present a concert of short choral pieces, sacred and secular, serious and light hearted, something for everyone.

Musical director Richard Grylls, guest soloist Emlyn Jones, accompanist and saxophonist.

Tickets £10 at the door, under 18’s free, proceeds to St Idloes Church.

Rotary club

LLANIDLOES Rotary Club held its annual thank you buffet for local businesses which have helped raised funds for good causes through its Easter egg raffles on Wednesday, 24 April. This year a total of £1,018 was raised, the largest amounts going to Wales Air Ambulance (£274) and to Bodlondeb and Maes-y-Wennol (£252). Other good causes included the Alder Hey Children’s Charity, the Trefeglwys Community Defibrillator Fund, Bronglais Chemo Unit, the Alzheimers Society and Llanidloes Dial-a-Ride.

The rotary club president, John Selwyn Smith, expressed warm thanks to all the businesses which had taken part and all who had contributed.

Please note that, owing to staffing problems, the free defibrillator training day has now been delayed from Saturday, 18 May until Saturday, 14 September.

The rotary club apologizes for any inconvenience caused.

This week’s weekly meeting was held over the border in Radnorshire, they first visited The National Cycle Museum in Llandrindod Wells, home to over 260 cycles, the oldest being over 200 years old.

They then went onto The Bell Country Inn at Llanyer. President John Selwyn Smith thanks John Sheppard for organising the evening.

The next meeting is on 15 May and is incoming president-elect Tim Chilton’s club assembly.

Noah’s Ark sponsored walk

THIS year’s sponsored walk for the Noah’s Ark Appeal, Children’s Hospital of Wales will take place on Sunday, 19 May, going across the hills from Llanidloes to Llandinam.

All fundraising this year will go towards a much needed teenage Cystic Fibrosis Unit in part of the Children’s Hospital for Wales.

Sponsorship forms available from Woosnam and Davies Newsagents, Co-op Llanidloes or Les Jones 01686 413125. Register at 8am at the Gro Car Park and pick up a free bottle of water at the start of the walk and at Clos Ffynon.

Llanidloes in Bloom

LLANIDLOES Town Council has announced that there is a hanging basket/planter competition for the town centre to include Great Oak Street, Longbridge Street, Shortbridge Street, China Street and High Street.

Exhibits to be displayed from 1 June to 31 August.

Arrangements will be judged on Saturday, 27 July. Prize will be a commemorative plaque and £50.

Holistic Therapy Day

THERE will be a Holistic Therapy Day at the Old Mill function room on Saturday, 1 June, 10am to 4pm, free entry, taster sessions, talks, stalls, demonstrations and more.

Concert

THERE is a concert devised by Llanidloes Music and Arts Club featuring harpist Tomi Turner and the Trio Taliesyn on Saturday, 18 May at 7.30pm at Trinity Church.

Members free, adults £7, children £2.

Art exhibition

THERE is currently an exhibition at the Gallery at the Old Mill, until June by Pamela Higgs and Angela Morris. It is an exhibition of textile art.

Bingo

THERE will be bingo at the rugby club on Wednesday, 15 May.

Doors open at 7.30pm, eyes down 8pm.

50p entry for adults includes tea/ coffee and biscuit.

The bingo is in aid of the Van Institute.

There will also be bingo on Wednesday, 22 May, same venue, same conditions for further fundraising purposes, all welcome.

Royal British Legion

£220 was raised at the bingo last Wednesday evening at the rugby club.

The evening was organised by Lindy Jones and co to raise funds for RBL Ladies and cadets.

The RBL Ladies would like to thank them for the great fundraising for all the local organisations and charities.
