Rotary Club

LLANIDLOES Rotary Club were treated to a fascinating talk and slideshow from Dr David H Edwards of Llanidloes.

The club can boast a long list of speakers listing a variety of subjects however rarely get an insight into the content presented by Dr Edwards.

Having carried out research on the cardiovascular system for the past 38 years at the University of Wales College of Medicine Cardiff, and more recently at Swansea University with a British Heart Foundation funded group, Dr Edwards explained the exciting new research he is doing using heart cells made from stem cells.

He went on to explain that the cardiovascular system permits blood to circulate and transport nutrients (such as amino acids and electrolytes), oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, and blood cells around our bodies.

The club were informed of the three different types of blood vessels, arteries, veins, and capillaries and shocked to find out that there is approximately 100,000 miles of vessels in each of our bodies.

Dr Edwards dined with the club and was thanked for his fascinating and informative talk.

The club are always lining up their next speaker, so if you have a project, charity or experience you would like to share then contact Llanidloes Rotary Club for details on how to get involved.
