Community Council
LLANRHYSTUD Community Council met on 4 January to discuss the correspondence and concerns raised by the community.
The clerk had looked into the conditions of the application for a grant from Tesco in order to purchase an additional piece of equipment for the play area. Before submitting the application, it was decided to ask the community what additional piece of equipment they would like to see in the play area.
Information from Ceredigion County Council included a Christmas card from the chairman and notices of temporary road closures on the C1119 near Rhydrosser on 5 January, and on the B4576 in the Joppa area from 20 February, to 3 March.
The Welsh Government gave notice of a consultation on the proposal to ban the use of plastic microbeads in cosmetics etc. The consultation can be viewed on their website.
The minister, Mark Drakeford, sent copies of posters to raise awareness and encourage participation in the local elections in May. The posters are displayed on the village noticeboard.
An interim budget was discussed as a means of setting the precept for 2017/18. It was decided not to increase the amount asked for, it has remained at £8,500 for the last four years. A bill for £186 was received from the Welsh Audit Office, this is the payment for the external audit carried out by Grant Thornton last June.
Requests that have been sent to the county council on behalf of the community this month are: to resurface the footbridge over the ford with an anti-slip coating; to unblock a culvert on the Moelifor to Glancarrog road; and to cut back trees in Cwm Mabws near to the entrance to Penlan Mabws.
A concern was raised about the amount of litter on the side of the main road from the Texaco garage to the village bridge. One suggestion is to have a community litter-pick one Saturday morning. Look out for the notice.
Cllr Rowland Rees-Evans reported on the communications between himself and the county council about the promised flashing light near the ford to warn of the school nearby. He said that it is most likely that the county council would not provide the light. As a result, the community council decided to ask the county council to repair or replace the existing vehicle speed warning light on Rhiwfach.
Discussions also took place, on the lack of a crossing on the A487. The clerk was asked to contact the Trunk Road Authority once again.
The next meeting will take place on 1 February, at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall.
