An unusual discussion topic, ‘A History of Fermented Foods’, drew a crowd to the November meeting.
Ron Pateman tracked the archaeological evidence of the earliest use of fermented foods across the world, beginning in China.
Society members were introduced to references to fermentation in early texts, studies in micro-biology, old and new production methods and the topical health benefits of ‘good bacteria’.
The society Christmas dinner will be at the White Swan on 4 December, meeting there at the earlier time of 7pm.
