MEMBERS have been extremely busy during the first few months of 2018.
On 8 January, a meeting was held mainly to arrange the 2018/19 programme, and many new and varied ideas were proposed.
On 20 January, the annual dinner was held at Cefn Hafod, Gorsgoch and a tasty three-course meal was enjoyed by all.
The winner of the 2017-18 monthly competition was announced, namely Gwen Davies and she was presented with a colourful scarf.
Members also showed their gratitude to Avril Jones for being such an excellent host for the December meeting and presented her with a slate placemat.
Carol Thomas, president, gave the vote of thanks and extended a special thank you to Ann Hughes for making the arrangements for the dinner.
On 5 February, the members had the pleasure of dining out again, this time at Cegin Gareth, Lampeter.
A cookery demonstration of a three-course meal for Valentine’s Day was given by Gareth for which he prepared a savoury cheesecake, a pork garland, chicken cups, warm seasonal salad and a Valentine’s torte.
He also gave us some preparation tips, for example, if onions are kept in the fridge, they do not make your eyes water when chopping them. After the demonstration, the members heartily ate the meal plus several extras prepared by Gareth. Members agreed it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Gareth then judged the monthly competition for a colourful cooking utensil and the winner was Carol Thomas, with Alice Davies in second place and Rose Bull in third.
On 2 March, members took part in the St David’s Day Parade through Lampeter town and then congregated at the Victoria Hall to enjoy Welsh culture at its best – Cwmann Male Voice Choir singing a range of traditional Welsh songs with everybody joining in.
Members dined out yet again on 5 March, this time at Y Sosban Fach, Lampeter, to celebrate St David’s Day.
After the meal, the monthly meeting was held, with Carol presiding and the relevant business was conducted.
The staff at Y Sosban Fach then judged the pretty aprons brought by members for the monthly competition.
Avril won the first prize, with Ceinwen Roach in second place and Carol in third place.
The president then gave the vote of thanks and thanked Y Sosban Fach for the meal and Gwen Davies, in particular, for arranging the evening.
The next meeting will be held at Capel-y-Groes Vestry on 9 April when Tracy Jones will be making jewellery.
