Garden Club
THE Garden Club season for 2018 ended with the AGM in November and reflections on meetings with interesting and varied topics and speakers including a plant sale in May, a garden visit in June, and another successful Annual Show in August. Following a buffet the gathering dispersed with festive greetings before a two-month break.
February’s meeting marked the new season, the collection of subscriptions and distribution of the year’s programmes. An audience of 28 members and one visitor were present,. Other business discussed included proposed venues for the summer outing. Further information will be given at the March meeting.
The guest speaker was introduced. Rev Mary Bolt, accompanied by her husband live in Llanfachreth. They had moved there 20 years ago having left a substantial vicarage and large garden, to a small cottage and plot. Slides illustrated how the site developed into a woodland garden. They were able to purchase a neighbouring field beyond the stream, clearing the land of bracken, replanting with beautiful species of trees and shrubs, producing colour through the season, and is advertises in the Yellow Open Garden, open this year on 18-19 May.
The next meeting, held in the Ganolfan on Wednesday 6 March at 7pm prompt, will be Phil Wheeler speaking on importing organic cottons.
