Bowls

MACHYNLLETH and Maglona lost their recent Montgomeryshire CBA League Cup second round ties to Newtown and Welshpool respectively.

Twenty-two shots down from the first leg, Machynlleth made a strong bid to overcome the deficit, but failed to gain victory by only one shot (150-149) after the second leg.

Maglona, although losing by 174 shots to 122, deserve praise for a creditable performance against their first division opponents.

Meanwhile, despite two disappointing defeats to Welshpool (20-13) and Berriew (10-6), Machynlleth ladies’ Montgomeryshire County Ladies’ Wednesday League side held on to fifth place in the 11-team league, two points behind joint leaders Cegidfa, Berriew and Sarn.

Two Welsh internationals will face each other in one of the county singles semi-finals shortly. Machynlleth’s Andrew Fleming and Montgomery’s Mark Weaver will battle it out for a place in the final of this much-prized competition.

Two other county competitions saw local bowlers miss out in the last four, Andrew and Nigel Fleming lost to M Weaver and S Tulloch in the pairs while, in the fours, Don Lewis, Barry Fleming, Mark Rowlands and David Rowlands met a similar fate to a four from Berriew.

IN the period 7 to 28 June, under delegated powers, an application for the erection of a single, affordable detached three bedroom family dwelling with separate garage and workshop and sewage treatment plant on plot 3, adjacent to Troedybryn, Abercegir, Machynlleth was refused.

County council stall

POWYS County Council’s Housing Solutions Department has arranged to have a stall on the Machynlleth Wednesday Market on 1 August, starting at 9am.

Claire Carter of Housing Solutions will be on hand to take your questions/views.

Also present will be representatives from other departments, Tony Jones (former town mayor), who is the local tenant representative on Powys’ Tenants’ Scrutiny Panel and County Councillor Michael Williams.

As this is a ‘none’ Powys County Council housing specific event, everyone is welcome to come along.
