THE latest community news from Machynlleth
Council meeting
MACHYNLLETH Town Council will be holding its next ordinary monthly meeting at Y Plas on Monday, 30 July, at 6.30pm.
County pool
MACHYNLLETH Marvels continued to experience mixed results in division two of the North Wales Pool Interleague in June and July’s rounds of fixtures.
Beating local rivals Machynlleth Mor-ladron 24-16 in June, they lost this month’s home match to the division’s leaders, Welshpool A, 24-16.
Meanwhile Mor-ladron followed their defeat to the Marvels with a loss at second-placed Wrexham 8 Ball by yet another 24-16 score line.
Bowls
THE town’s bowls teams experienced a very poor week of results in the Montgomeryshire County leagues.
Machynlleth (one point) had their lead at the top of the men’s first division pegged back as Welshpool (six points) won by 27 shots on Llynlloedd green on Thursday, 12 July. Maglona lost in the men’s second division when they went down by 86 shots at promotion hopefuls Maesydre, who took all seven league points.
Then, in the county mixed league, Machynlleth (two points) suffered a four-shot reversal in their opening fixture at Montgomery (five points).
Completing a week to forget, the former winners lost at Aberaeron by two shots in the Cambrian Rose Bowl.
Alwyn Jones was the club’s only finalist in the recent Montgomeryshire County Finals, losing 21-15 in the senior singles to Machynlleth-born William R. James, of Newtown BC. William made it a day to remember when he went on to take the senior pairs’ and fours’ titles.
Gardening workshop
EDIBLE Mach Maethlon held a free summer pruning session on 19 July. Emma Maxwell led the attendees on how to prune in summer, using Edible Mach trees as examples.
Then, on 20 July, at Machynlleth Bowling Club, Clwb Coginio saw popular chef Mikhael prepare a traditional Russian Borsch, a classic beetroot sour soup.
Fun evening
A FUN evening and barbecue is to be held at Canolfan Penal at 6.30pm on 3 August with stalls and featuring Abergynolwyn Brass Band.
