THE latest community news from Machynlleth
Extinction Rebellion
OVER 100 Machynlleth residents have called for action to address climate change after attending an Extinction Rebellion coffee morning. Extinction Rebellion Machynlleth has backed declarations from Machynlleth Town Council and Powys County Council of a Climate Emergency and held the coffee morning to give local residents the chance to hear from speakers and put forward their own ideas about the action that is needed to address issues. Speakers included climate scientist John Mason and Paul Allen, of Zero Carbon Britain. A spokesperson for XR Machynlleth said: “People present contributed their ideas for practical action, local and national. It was agreed that we need to act decisively and cohesively as a community in face of the threatening catastrophe. People are joining new XR groups in Aberystwyth, Borth and Llanidloes. The movement is catching fire across the world as populations realise their government’s actions are too little and too late. XR meetings are very well attended in the White Lion in Machynlleth.
