Royal British Legion
AT their recent meeting at the Bowling Club, Machynlleth and District members of the Royal British Legion began by observing a respectful silence in remembrance of their member Pauline Davies who passed away recently.
Correspondence included RBL Candidates Election Statements, Anzac Commemorative Service in Staffordshire, and an email from Adrian Leslie regarding a tour to Ypres and the battlefields.
Armed Forces Day at Holyhead is on 25 May and Tony Jones told members that a 29-seat coach would cost £365. He requested help from the Social Fund for £200 towards the trip. This was agreed and Tony was able to inform members that the cost would be £7 for members and £12 for non- members.
Stephen Doyle told members they would have to get to the Houses of Parliament by 9am in their proposed tour. This would include a tour of parliament and coffee with Glyn Davies MP for Powys; Stephen said he would be trying for 1 May.
Anthony Jones told members of Pauline Davies’ demise and members thanked Standard Bearer Roger Seagrave for attending her funeral.
Stephen Doyle reported that £3,900 had been made raised through the Poppy Appeal, and thanked Mark Hodge for all his input and £100 donation.
Civic Society
THE Machynlleth and District Civic Society will hold the next bi-monthly meeting of its executive committee at the Tabernacle on Thursday, 21 March, at 7pm. All members are entitled to attend.
Council meeting
THE next ordinary monthly meeting of Machynlleth Town Council will be held at Plas Machynlleth on Monday, 29 March, at 6.30pm. Formal notice, including agenda, of the meeting will be displayed on the council’s notice boards in front of the town library and the Plas foyer.
The public and press are welcome.
Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens
MEETING at the White Lion Hotel on 5 March, members of Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens were pleased to confirm the success of their 10th anniversary celebrations on Saturday, 23 February.
Opened by chair Norma McCarten, notable successes were the well-received talks at Y Plas, given by patron, author and TV celebrity Alys Fowler and the gardens’ first co-ordinator, Kate Doubleday.
The evening gig at the Corris Institute also proved to be great entertainment. Committee member Eleanor Lamoure reported on the excellent fund-raising during the day of £572, which included a donation of £150 from the Machynlleth Town Council’s mayors’ fund presented by the current mayor, Cllr Richie Gaskell.
Darts Night
FOLLOWING a successful league programme, the Dyfi Valley Darts League 2018/19 is holding its finals night at the Machynlleth Bowling Club on Friday, 22 March, starting at 7.30pm.
Tabernacle
THE Tabernacle Machynlleth is hosting The Jerseys’ Oh What a Nite on Friday, 22 March. The auditorium doors open at 7pm – show starts at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £18 to £22. Please call box office on 01654 703355 or collect direct from the Tabernacle, open Monday to Saturday from 10am until 4pm.
