Bro Ddyfi Parent Carers Group

BRO Ddyfi Parent Carers is a new peer support group for all parent and guardian carers, meeting monthly in Machynlleth.

No matter what condition your child has, diagnosed or not or even in the process of diagnosis, they are there to support with their knowledge and a shoulder to lean on.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, 11 April at the Old Shop, Bryn y Gôg, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

David Williams from the Powys Integrated Autism Service will be coming to talk to them about the service and to answer any questions parents and carers may have.

All welcome, just turn up. Cuppa, cake and support with other parents in similar situations.

Mandy Dean, Credu outreach worker for adult unpaid and family carers, will also be there for anyone needing more information and support with their caring role.

Perfume talk

DYFI U3A – university of the third age – will be presenting a talk by Jackie Windsor Lewis ‘The History of Perfume’ as the main feature of its next monthly meeting at the bowling club on Friday, 26 April, at 2pm.

Dyfi U3A meets at the bowling club on the third Friday of each month from 2pm to 4pm.

Planning

MEETING at Llandrindod Wells on 11 April, the county planning committee considered and approved three separate applications submitted by Powys County Council for hedgerow removal notices, at Llan, Llanbrynmair. This decision means that hedgerow retention notices are not required.

The committee received for information notice of applications that had been approved by county planners under delegated powers including, in the Machynlleth planning area: removal and replacement of trees covered by a Tree preservation Order (TPO), Plas Dolguog Estate, Machynlleth; demolition of existing conservatory together with the erection of a larger replacement, Celyn, Derwenlas; listed building consent for internal and external alterations involving replacement of roof structure and covering, insertion of steel beam to support roof and insertion of steel beam to support floor in utility area, Pen-y-Bont, Cemmaes Road; demolition of an extension and erection of a replacement extension, 2 Aelybryn, Ceinws; application to discharge condition No. 3 attached to planning permission P/2015/0904 (samples of materials), land at Tanrallt Road (old foundry), Tanrallt Road, Machynlleth.

However, an application for a proposed new dwelling and detached garage (with some matters reserved) on land opposite Woodlands, Forge Road, Machynlleth, was refused.

Council meeting

MACHYNLLETH Town Council will be holding its next ordinary monthly meeting at Plas Machynlleth on Monday, 29 April, at 6.30pm.

Formal notice of the meeting, including agenda, will be affixed to the council’s notice boards in front of the town library and the Plas foyer.

The public are welcome to attend.

Mach Maethlon

MACH Maethlon was pleased to welcome Stephanie Randall as their second co-ordinator; she will work alongside well-established co-ordinator Matt Swan.

Stephanie will be taking a lead on the community engagement work the group is doing to prepare for its next grant funding application to the National Lottery.

The group met at their Plas-based edible table for their latest volunteer session on Wednesday, 10 April, before moving to work on Edible Mach’s veg beds around the town.

Hosted by Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens, Mach Maethlon joined the Seedling Saturday event at Plas Machynlleth on 13 April. Members of the group brought seedlings and seeds to swap and generally to join in the fun.

Green opening

PAVING the way for the new season, the Machynlleth Bowling Club president, Michael Williams, is set to get the club’s season under way by delivering the first bowl of the campaign.

Members and non-members will then be invited to take part in the annual RNLI Open Pairs’ competition, raising funds for the Aberdyfi Branch RNLI.

Junior football success

IT was celebrations all round as Machynlleth Hurricanes Junior FC lifted the Aberystwyth Junior Football League’s Under 14s Cup.

Played at Aberystwyth Town FC’s Park Avenue on Saturday, 30 March, Machynlleth Hurricanes and Llanilar Gators battled out a tremendous final as, going 3-1 up, and Machynlleth reduced to 10 men, Llanilar looked set for victory. However, thanks to a great team performance, and goals from Dylan Owen (2) and Joseff Rodgers, the game went into extra time and penalties.

The Mach lads held their nerve to record a superb 5-4 penalty shoot-out victory. Hurricanes starlet Dylan Owen was named man of the match, completing a fantastic afternoon’s performance.

‘ANTARCTICA and South Georgia: A Wildlife Paradise’ is an illustrated talk by Elfyn Pugh that will be given on Friday, 26 April, at 7pm.

Elfyn rates Antarctica as the most fascinating place he has visited in his lifetime but undoubtedly his top favorite wildlife destination is the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia which is teeming with wildlife.

This talk is based around these two fascinating destinations.

Music club

ON FRIDAY, 17 May at 7.30pm, in Y Tabernacl, Noriko Ogawa will play the piano.

A highly-acclaimed international pianist, recording artist, presenter, educator and artistic adviser to MUZA Kawasaki Symphony Hall.

She presents a stunning programme and finale to the club’s 2018/19 season.
