MOMA exhibitions
CHAIRMAN Alun Jones welcomed all to the Tabernacle Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) on Saturday, May 11, and introduced special guest Dr Peter Wakelin, who went on to open MOMA’s latest exhibitions.
Prior to opening the exhibitions, Peter commended the artists and their works which included Yo lo fi by Keith Bayliss, The Welsh Group’s The 70 Series, Ian Jacobs’ Body and RockSCAPES, Theo Crutchley-Mack’s The Last Whaling Stations of the Sub-Antarctic, recent acquisitions to the Tabernacle Collection, and photographs of the moon.
Crafts
JEANETTE Gray will be running short courses all summer at Corris Craft Centre, including willow, coiling and cordage. Get in touch to book a place, or pop in at Taran EcoDesigns.
Pumpers gig
THE Pumpers’ Session presents Llani-Mach 2019 at Llanidloes Town Football Club on Friday, 5 July, and at Machynlleth Bowling Club on Saturday, 6 July. Doors open at 6pm at both venues. Free entry.
Live music with Mach Pumpers, Beast with a Million Eyes, Black Market, Phez, and Rate.
RNLI Fundraiser
THE recent Machynlleth Bowling Club sponsored RNLI Open Pairs competition raised £104 for the Aberdyfi Lifeboat. In a letter of thanks the Aberdyfi Branch RNLI expressed its sincere gratitude for the contribution which will be put to good purpose in helping to save lives.
The Big Lunch
THE Big Lunch is an Eden project supported by the National Lottery and, on Saturday, 1 June, a warm welcome is extended to all to join the UK’s annual get together for neighbours at Plas Machynlleth from noon to 2pm, which will include a treasure hunt. Bring a picnic.
Meet the Artist
ON Wednesday, 5 June, the series of meet the artist talks continues at the Tabernacle, Heol Penrallt, with Keith Bayliss talking about his works, starting at midday. Free admission.
Dawn Chorus Walk
DAWN Chorus Walk at Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens, with Ben Porter., on Thursday, 23 May, from 6.45am to 8.45am.
The daily dawn chorus is one of the most exciting wildlife experiences to be enjoyed in spring and early summer but picking apart the species involved can often present a bit of a challenge for budding wildlife enthusiasts. During the walk around Y Gerddi, we’ll be identifying the different bird species we hear, enjoying the medley of song and learning a bit about the ecology of those involved.

Bowls News
MONTGOMERYSHIRE County Bowling Association veterans take on Mid Wales CBA veterans, at Knighton BC on 21 May, in the opening round of the Welsh Bowls’ Association Veterans County Championship.
Six Machynlleth bowlers made the squad, namely, John Astley and Hefin Ellis (reserves), Alwyn Jones, Kevin Jones, Brendan Rogers and David Rowlands.
Community Soup
A COMMUNITY fundraising soup will be held at Y Plas, Machynlleth between 1pm and 3pm on 11 June.
A community soup is a fun crowd-funding event – pay a small donation for some delicious soup, listen to local project ideas, and vote for which to fund with the proceeds of the soup sales.
