Concert
EIRIAN Owen’s Music Pupils Concert takes place at the Tabernacle on Friday, 7 June at 7.30pm.
Tickets £8 and £1 for under 16s.
All proceeds towards the Friends of the Tabernacle.
Football festival
THE Plas Machynlleth’s Cae Glas playing fields were bathed in glorious sunshine for the Machynlleth Junior Football Festival on Saturday, 18 May, attracting teams from mid and north Wales, together with a large and enthusiastic crowd of football lovers, proved to be a tremendous success.
Opening the festival, Machynlleth FC chairman William Lloyd Williams, extending a warm welcome to all, gave special thanks to the Machynlleth Hurricanes Junior FC Committee, volunteers, Machynlleth FC, officials and everyone for their great commitment.
A fantastic feast of football ensued, including two girls’ teams from Bow Street and Machynlleth, which resulted in the following winners and runners-up: under 8s (Conrad Trevelyan Shield): winners Gaerwen, Anglesey, runners-up Mach Hurricanes; under 10s (Huw Lawton Davies Shield): winners Caersws, runners-up Mach Hurricanes; under 11s (George Trevor Holt Memorial Cup): winners Penrhyncoch, runners-up Bro Dysynni; under 12s (April Jones Trophy): winners Llanilar, runners-up Caersws; under 14s (Co-operative Cup): winners Mach Hurricanes, runners-up Penrhyncoch A.
Speaking after the festival, chairman William Lloyd Williams said: “On behalf all involved, I should like to thank the public for their super support, and all involved with the festival, especially the youngsters and their coaches. Also, we should like to thank Plant-i, Dovey Valley Butcher, Co-op store, Machynlleth, Lloyds Coaches, Dai Jones’ Sound Machine Disco, Martin Roberts (paramedic) and the Welsh Ambulance Service.”
Bowls
MACHYNLLETH lost by 11 shots at Welshpool in the Montgomeryshire County Men’s League Division One on 23 May, collecting just one point to Welshpool’s six.
Meanwhile, on 24 May, with all four rinks recording winning scores, Maglona triumphed to an 18-shot home victory over Maesydre in Division Two and secured all seven league points.
Machynlleth ladies slipped to defeat in their home Montgomeryshire County Ladies’ League against Berriew ladies, picking up two points to the reigning champions’ seven.
Newtown progressed in the Welsh Bowls’ Association’s Carruthers’ Shield thanks to an 85-64 score line over the home club at Llynlloedd green recently.
North Wales Pool
ON Sunday, 19 May, Machynlleth Marvels returned to form after two back-to-back defeats to put their North Wales Interleague Division Two challenge back on track, beating home team Flintshire 8 Ball in a thrilling five sessions by 21 frames to 19. The Marvels (111 points) are now only nine points behind leaders Chester B on 120 points.
Also in Division Two, Machynlleth Môr-ladron gave leaders Chester B a big fright before conceding the match 23-17 to the visitors.
Rail group meeting
THE Shrewsbury – Aberystwyth Rail Passengers’ Association (SARPA) will be holding its next monthly meeting at 2.15pm in the upstairs meeting room, White Lion Hotel, on Saturday, 8 June. SAPAS’s meetings are open to members and non-members.
SARPA meets monthly at various venues along the line including Aberystwyth, Borth, Tywyn, Machynlleth, Caersws, Newtown, Welshpool and Shrewsbury.

Hear to Help
THE Hear to Help drop-in clinic in Machynlleth takes place this Friday, 7 June, from 10am to midday in Y Plas.
NHS hearing-aid wearers can visit this Action on Hearing Loss Cymru service for friendly help with cleaning their aids, new tubes and free batteries. The drop-in is run by trained volunteers on the first Friday of every month.
Corris FC revival
CORRIS United Football Club has started training sessions at Ysgol Bro Hyddgen playing fields after reforming this summer.
The sessions are held at 6.15pm every Wednesday night as the club look forward to their return to the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League next season.
