Bowls league
MACHYNLLETH kept up the pace to challenge Berriew, Welshpool and Newtown for the Montgomeryshire County Men’s League Division. One title thanks to an impressive 40shot home success over basement boys Montgomery.
The visitors, who shocked the Llynlloedd men earlier in the season, were beaten on three rinks, but claimed a draw on the fourth, took home 0.5 to Machynlleth’s 6.5 points.
Following the league programme on August 8, only eight points covered the leading four clubs, with Machynlleth and Welshpool two games to play and Berriew and Newtown one each.
In Division Two, Maglona played their last game of this season’s campaign at Aberdyfi and were rather unfortunate to return with no points.
The third-placed seasiders, winning on three rinks by 1, 1, and 5, together with a comfortable victory on rink four, won by 30 shots and reaped all seven league points.
