G?yl Glynd?r

A FESTIVAL is being held this weekend in Machynlleth.

G?yl Glynd?r, Cymru yn Ewrop, will be held on 27 and 28 September in Canolfan Owain Glynd?r.

There will be live musics, activities and workshops.

The festival will be a celebration of the historic links made by Glynd?r and France with the famous Pennal letter.

“We want to continue with the long tradition of links between Machynlleth, Wales and the other historic nations and regions of Europe,” said Plaid Cymru councillor, Elwyn Vaughan.

The Pennal letter is one of the most striking documents in Wales, revealing a confident Wales that played an important part in the European politics at the beginning of the 15th century.

It made Wales an independent player in Europe’s political games and placed the nation at the centre of the greatest events of the day.

The weekend of activities will include Galician, Breton and Welsh musicians, include Breton and Basque politicians which will result in the Basque town of Leitza, Navarre twinning with Machynlleth.

Also talking on Saturday will be Plaid Cymru Leader, Adam Price AM.

Cllr Vaughan added: “As in Glynd?r’s day, Wales can be independently minded and be at the heart of the greatest events of the day.

“That is why as Plaid Cymru we have been campaigning to Remain in Europe.

“Wales, culturally, linguisticallybeing a bilingual nation, economically has been interlinked with Europe for hundreds of years and indeed has more in common at times with the nations and regions within Europe than the right-wing dogmatic centralist state at Westminster that sucks in wealth and resources from the rest of these isles.

“That is why if the Westminster establishment goes head-long for a no deal Brexit and also opposes a opportunity for clear options to be considered as part of a decisive referendum, then we have to look at the Constitutional structures within these isles and have a Constitutional Convention, or coming together, as Glynd?r had in Machynlleth at his time.

“We want to be part of the greater continental whole, not an island with its inward-looking nation state. “We want a positive escape route from a Westminster destined to be an ever deeper right wing Tory.”

“We as Welsh nationalists, are globalists, internationalists, the ones that believe in our interdependence within a wider European family of regions and nations of Europe and thus continue with the historic tradition of Glynd?r,” added Cllr Vaughan.
