MOMA
Y TABERNACLE, MOMA Wales on Thursday, 31 October, between 7.30pm and 9.30pm: Dispatches on the Red Dress, an intimate and courageous new live show by twice BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winning songwriter Rowan Rheingans.
Adventurous new writing meets the warmth of a folk gig in this heartfelt and personal one woman show, uniquely weaving immersive storytelling with live fiddle, banjo and original songs taken from Rowan’s brand new genremelding debut solo album.
Unravelling the joy and pain from a story of her grandmother’s youth in 1940’s Germany, Rowan celebrates small acts of resistance.
Christmas fair
CYLCH Meithrin Machynlleth are staging a Christmas fair at Y Plas on 8 December between 11am and 3pm.
Features include crafts, Santa’s grotto, gifts, face painting, raffle, refreshments and much more.

WI
MACHYNLLETH Women’s Institute will be holding its AGM on 20 November at 7pm at St Peter’s Church.
The meeting will be followed by a games evening.
All females are welcome to attend any of the meetings.
Mach WI is a friendly group that enjoys a range of activities and events to suit all ages and interests.
Army Cadets
MACHYNLLETH Army Cadets are looking for new cadets in Year 8 or older. Pop along Tuesdays between 7pm and 9pm.
The ACF offers the chance to do things you may have never experienced before, at the same time offering real world experience and qualifications to all.
Btec, ILM and Duke of Edinburgh available to all.
Cadets is a great way to learn new skills and looks great on your CV.
Concert
CERDD Machynlleth Music presents the Anton Stadler Trio: Janet Hill (clarinet), Robin Ireland (viola) and Sarah Beth Briggs (piano), in a programme of works by Bruch, Britten, Schumann, Poulenc, Prokofiev and Mozart at the Tabernacle on Friday, 18 October, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £12, under 18s free.
MOMA talk
THE always well received market day talks continue at the Tabernacle, Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) Machynlleth on Wednesday, 16 October, at noon.
The illustrated talk, ‘Old Welsh Stone Rings’, will be given by John Hoyle.
The talk will include details of surveys and geometry of stone rings, mainly in mid Wales, including photographs by Robert Price and John Hoyle.
Admission to the auditorium is free.
Art club
THE club meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at the bowling club from 1pm until 3.30pm.
All are welcome, experienced and inexperienced with plenty of help, advice and support with any problems.
The cost is £3 per session, including tea, coffee and biscuits.

Dyfi U3A
DYFI U3A – university of the third age – will be holding its AGM at the bowling club on Friday, 18 October, starting at 2pm.
The guest speaker will be Kathy Lye of Age Cymru, and will talk about creating an age friendly Wales.
U3A holds its monthly meetings at the bowling club on the third Friday of the month from 2pm until 4pm.
Harvest music and art
ST PETER’S Church was the venue for the launch of the exhibition of lovely watercolours by Ann Hulme, following a successful evening of Harvest hymns and music on Sunday, 6 October.
The service was led by the Reverend Miriam Beecroft and featured Alwyn Evans, conductor and soloist and Margaret Hughes, organist.
Donations were in support of the church organ fund.
Ann Hulme’s watercolours can be viewed until Monday, 4 November.
Sketchbook day
SKETCHBOOK Studies Day with Ruth Koffer at the Tabernacle, Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) on Saturday, 19 October, 10am to 3pm.
With time and money constraints, working in a sketchbook can often be the only option for keeping up with your art.
Ruth Koffer will help you to really make the most of this practice through a variety of media and approaches.
Weather permitting, Ruth will teach in the landscape near MOMA.
There will also be guidance in abstract and still life sketching.
The day course is suitable for all abilities from beginners to pros.
Adults and accompanied young people over 10 years welcome.
