St Peter’s Christmas

ON Monday, 23 December, particularly suitable for anyone who finds Christmas difficult, a quiet carol in remembrance service to remember loved ones will be held at 6pm.

At 4.30pm on Christmas Eve, the crib service will be held with Christmas carols and nativity for families.

Christmas communion will be at 11.30am on Christmas Eve and 8am Christmas day.

Indoor bowls

MACHYNLLETH Indoor Bowls Club lost at home to leaders Flint IBC (12 points) in their latest Welsh Indoor Bowls Association’s (north section) club championship.

Despite this 20-shot defeat, winning on one rink, they collected two points and showed plenty of promise for good things to come.

MOMA exhibitions

LAUNCHED on 30 November, exhibitions now open to the public at the Tabernacle Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) include, in the Ruralist Room, an exhibition of textile animals, Beasts of the Mabinogion by Helly Powell (Fauxidermy), while in the foyer there is the exhibition Silent Song paintings by Valeriane Leblond.

In the Pulpit Room on the first floor is the exhibition North to South, a very Welsh exhibition, landscape and portrait paintings by Daniel Yeomans and in the Owen Gallery and Bridge is the exhibition Making, Teaching, Collecting, works by Ann Williams, also works from Ann’s own collection and by her former students.

Completing the current exhibitions, a selection of works from the Tabernacle collection can be viewed in the Tannery Gallery across the Bridge.

The files from Dyfi Valley 2000 are available for inspection in the Green Room when it is not being used for meetings or piano rehearsals. The Taliesin Mosaics are also on show here.

The Mela (Festival) Mosaic, created by Martin Cheek to a design by Balraj Khanna is in the entrance lobby to the auditorium.

Admission to the galleries, which are open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm, is free.

Football success

ENJOYING their best start to a season for many years and holding third spot in the Mid Wales League Division Two, Machynlleth Football Club’s manager Luke Vince-Hold has received the division’s Manager of the Month award for October. Luke’s skills have boosted the club to winning seven and drawing one of their opening nine games just five points behind the unbeaten leaders, Penparcau.

Indoor games

APPROACHING the season’s mid-point in the Dyfi Valley Darts League, Dwynant and Foresters A have opened up an useful lead over the chasing pack.

Table: Dwynant (47 points), Foresters A (45), Bowling Club (38), Penrhos (36), White Lion (19), Slaters (18), Foresters B (16), Misfits (11). While in the area’s dominoes league, week five’s results saw Foresters win their top-of-the-table home clash with Skinners 9-4. There were also wins for Divas, 7-6 at Dovey, and Wynnstay Llan’s 9-4 result at Bowling Club.
