Rose Bowl Final
MACHYNLLETH Bowling Club completed a successful day at Llandrindod Wells BC on Sunday, 4 September, when they secured the Cambrian News Rose Bowl with a thrilling five-shot (83-75) victory over the holders, Llandrindod Wells BC.
Earlier in the day, Machynlleth doused a particularly strong Kerry BC’s semi-final endeavours by 83 shots to 80 thanks to rink scores of 34-9, 18-17, 16-27 and 15-27.
Llandrindod Wells were not to be easily beaten and fought for every shot to keep the result of this pulsating final in the balance until the 21st and last end.
Machynlleth skips David Rowlands and Welsh international Andrew Fleming steered their fours to well-earned winning scores of 24-15 and 22-15 respectively.
And with fours skipped by Barry Fleming (19-23) and Brendan Rogers (18-25) keeping their opponents within sight, Machynlleth lifted the rose bowl for the first time since their 1997 victory over Aberystwyth BC.

THE meeting on 1 September was presided over by Major Ifan Price-Edwards and Cpl Gwyn Roberts.
A report on the fun day at Capel Bangor golf facility was given. Only nine members and four guest golfers attended.
Waiting for the golfers to finish meant that the range of darts, pool and a quiz did not take place. Therefore the day was a bit of a disappointment.
A report on the commemoration of the Battle of Mametz in July was given by Maj Price-Edwards. Over a 1,000 people attended this event in France.
