Garden Club

COUNTY planners have approved the following: Erection of a single-storey extension, Badgers Glade, Tafolwern, Llanbrynmair; alterations to fenestration and erection of an open-sided structure, Bristol House, 9 Brickfield Street, Machynlleth; erection of a wall and creation of steps and path, Brynllys, Llanbrynmair.

Fundraising dinner

EDIBLE Mach Maethlon is hosting a fundraising dinner, Raise the Roof, on Saturday, 22 October, from 7pm until late at the bowling club.

Enjoy a seasonal harvest celebration three-course meal with wine by Green Goat Café and music from Machynlleth’s Bung Bung Belles. Tickets are advance purchase only and are available from Deco Shop and Penrallt Book shop, or direct from Edible Mach Maethlon staff.

Railway bowls

MACHYNLLETH hosted the finals of the National Railway Bowls Competitions which brought success for local bowlers.

In an all-Machynlleth pairs’ final, Hefin Ellis and Brendan Rogers edged home in a two-shot thriller over local rivals Jonathan Taylor and John Rogers. In the triples, Hefin Ellis, John Rogers and Brendan Rogers were pipped at the post by one shot by their opponents from Morlands Railway BC.

Junior football

ON 4 September, the annual Garry Pugh Football Festival saw Machynlleth youngsters collect the runners-up prizes in two age groups.

They settled for runners-up spots against Bow Street Piod in the under-8s and Ystwyth Sharks in the under-10s.

Civic Society

CHAIR Margaret Vince opened the bi-monthly meeting of the society’s executive committee at

the Tabernacle on Thursday, 15 September.

The secretary presented the minutes of the July meeting which were approved. A letter has been sent to Gwynedd Council following concerns over alleged damage caused by four-wheel drive vehicles to a byway. Treasurer John Wynne Jones presented the accounts, which were approved.

A notice has appeared in at least one public telephone booth, indicating a consultation period with a view to possible closure. Some members received observations about the alleged rather long outgoing telephone message from the local medical practice. This will be raised at the Machynlleth Patients’ Forum.

The next meeting at the Tabernacle is on Thursday, 17 November.

Jonny and Hywel

ORGANISED by the Machynlleth Diabetic Group, there will be a night with the popular singing duo Jonny and Hywel at Plas Dolguog on Saturday, 15 October, at 7.30pm.
