British Legion
THE meeting was opened by chairman Stephen Doyle when the Exhortation was given in English by Anthony Jones, and in Welsh by Eufyl Williams. Members were told that Richie Jones tended his official resignation as chairman because of ill health.
The branch came third in the Machynlleth Carnival, but gave the £10 winnings to Alan Jones who owns the trailer. Thanks were given to Arthur and Sarah Jones from Ogo Fach for allowing the branch to keep the carnival trailer on their property.
The Poppy Appeal starts on 29 October and runs until 12 November, and all boxes will be picked up from Machynlleth businesses on 14 November.
A rota sheet for members to help sell poppies at the Co-op was handed out and it was suggested that the cadets are asked to help.
In the absence of treasurer Marilyn Jones, Anthony Jones told the members the books had been audited and audit sheets were ready to be sent to the RBL Wrexham. Nominations are needed for officers ready for the AGM in November.
The VE/VJ day celebrations went well.
Hear to Help
THE next drop-in clinic is on Friday, 7 October. at the Care Centre, Forge Road, from 10am to midday.
NHS hearing aid wearers can visit this service for friendly help with cleaning their aids, new tubes and free batteries. The clinic is run by trained volunteers on the first Friday of each month.
Probus
NAOMI Jones, head of education and communication for Snowdonia National Park, spoke of her work at the July meeting, which was also the Ladies Meeting.
Judy Alfrey will be speaking to the group on 25 October about the work of CADW and the protection of historic buildings and structures, landscapes and historic sites in Wales.
On 29 November, Charlie Falzon will address Probus on his Travels in Tajikistan.
