British Legion

THE AGM of the Machynlleth branch will be held on Tuesday, 1 November at the Bowling Club, 2pm. All members welcome.

The Poppy appeal runs from 29 October to 14 November. To purchase a poppy wreath contact Stephen Doyle (01650 511917).

All wreaths can be picked up at the Plas foyer, on 11 and 12 November between 11am and 3pm.

This year the Remembrance Service will be on 13 November at St Peter’s Church, 10am.

After the church service will be the march to the memorial for the laying of wreaths.

Cancer Research

THE Machynlleth and District Committee of North West Cancer Research held its annual coffee morning and stalls fundraiser at the rugby club on Saturday, 1 October, raising £1,220.

Appraising the success, which together with the house-to-house and street collection in mid-August totalled £2,161.

Treasurer Alwena Price and secretary Meinir Davies thanked everyone for their help, as well as the rugby club’s Elfed and Lilian Jones for their help and support.

The group’s AGM is on 3 November, 7.30pm, at the Rugby Club. All welcome to attend.

Dominoes

THE opening two weeks’ fixtures in the Dyfi Valley Dominoes League 2016/17 resulted in the top six teams separated by just four points.

County Pool

MACHYNLLETH B secured second place and promotion to division two despite their recent 19-21 defeat at home to Division Three champions Sports Lounge Dragons B.

In division one, Machynlleth A claimed a memorable 21-19 victory at the division’s champions, Sports Lounge Dragons A, to close their campaign in fourth place.

Bowls

MACHYNLLETH bowlers met at the clubhouse on 30 September for their annual season’s review and heard club captain Philip Jenkins praise all members for representing the club in 2016.

He congratulated Machynlleth on reclaiming the county championship and on winning the county mixed league and the Cambrian Rose Bowl - a magnificent treble.

He also paid tribute to the veterans and ladies’ teams on attaining creditable positions in their respective county leagues.

He congratulated the new bowlers for taking to the game so quickly, noting in particular those who’d ensured Maglona’s place in the county league division two, Andrew Fleming on retaining his place in the Welsh team and, similarly, Naomi Fleming on retaining her place in Wales’ Ladies’ Under 25s team.

He thanked everyone who’d helped to maintain Llynlloedd green and all the staff and volunteers who’d worked so hard during the season.

There then followed presentations from the teams’ captains and competitions’ organiser, followed by detailed discussions.

Theatre

UNITED Artists present ‘The Boy who Bit Picasso’, an interactive theatre show for ages four and over. The event takes place at Corris Institute on Friday, 21 October at 6.30pm. Food available from 5.30pm. Tickets are available from Helen Ingham (07791 632837) or on the door.

MOMA

WELSH Museums Festival Week is 22-29 October, celebrating all that is good about Welsh Museums by offering workshops and events.

MOMA is offering three free workshops: Optical Illusions, Sci-art Workshop and Children’s Drama and Art Workshops.

Free Optical Illusions: Sci-Art Workshop on Wednesday, 26 October from 11am to 2pm, Children’s Drama and Art Workshops on Friday, 28 October from 10.30am to 3.30pm (please bring some of your own beachcombed man-made materials) or create a Play in a Day with Lauren Hussein.

Please book the latter in advance. Suitable for eight to 12-year-olds.
