Royal Welch Fusiliers

AT the meeting of the Machynlleth, Tywyn and Dolgellau branch of the Royal Welch Fusiliers Comrades Association on Thursday, 3 November, the chair was WO2 Garbutt and presiding were Major Price-Edwards and Cpl Roberts 50.

Col Nick Beard confirmed he would be guest speaker at the St Dai’s Day Luncheon on Saturday, 25 February, at 1pm at Machynlleth Golf Club.

A Royal British Legion update was given as to the amalgamation of Tywyn and Aberdyfi with Machynlleth, which is likely to take place next spring. A presentation of RBL badges was made to Mach ACF to whom they are affiliated.

The Christmas luncheon at Tyn y Cornel, Tywyn, on Saturday, 17 December, at 1pm was confirmed, with over 30 people due to attend.

A revisit to the Capel Bangor golf/games facility in the spring was put forward, with Jen Taylor heading up this fun day.

Due to the ongoing successes of Mach Army Cadet Force, it was announced that they will now parade twice a week.The Passendaele/Ypres 100 Commemoration trip has had a great interest with 10 members signed up.

Hear to Help

THE next drop-in clinic is on Friday at the care centre, Forge Road, from 10am to midday.

NHS hearing aid wearers can visit this Action on Hearing Loss Cymru service for friendly help with cleaning their aids, new tubes and free batteries. The clinic is run by trained volunteers on the first Friday of each month.

Fundraiser

WITH all proceeds to Machynlleth Future Play, live music from ‘Paul Dark’ and DJ Dai Jones will be held on Saturday, 10 December, from 8pm until late in the community hall at Plas Machynlleth. Tickets cost £3 and are available at the Plas.

Christmas fair

A CHRISTMAS fair will be held at Plas Machynlleth on Saturday, 10 December, from 10am till 3pm.Stalls will include a Santa’s Grotto and British Legion tombola.

Civic Society

CHAIR Margaret Vince welcomed the society’s executive committee to the Tabernacle on Thursday, 17 November, for the bi-monthly meeting.

The committee, having dealt with its formal business, invited the treasurer, John Wynne Jones, to present the bi-monthly accounts, which showed a healthy credit balance. The accounts were approved with the committee’s grateful thanks.

Members expressed concern over proposals by BT to close several public call boxes in Machynlleth, Cadfarch, Glantwymyn and Llanbrynmair.

Secretary Rab Jones, who is also clerk to all four council areas, advised that the councils had met and made their views known. It was agreed to support the councils’ views and write accordingly.The chair closed the meeting with a reminder that the next meeting would be on Thursday, 19 January.

Bowling club

THE club is holding its annual Christmas fair on Saturday, 3 December. The event will run from 10.30am to 2.30pm with traditional and contemporary crafts, unique gifts and more. Entry is free. Refreshments available.
