THREE new events at start on Friday, 10 March, at 6pm for 6.30pm, with Icons and Allies, an exhibition of Welsh role models for LGBT history month.It is a touring exhibition celebrating influential people from Wales who were lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans, or worked for equality. Entrance by donation.Then, on Saturday, 11 March, from 10.30am to 3.30pm, as part of an ongoing series, an event will feature a day of talks, film discussions and homage to British landscape photographer, walker and campaigner, Fay Godwin (1931-2005).Admission is £15 (£10 non-waged). LEADERS White Lion were given a big scare at White Horse before they won their Machynlleth and District Pool League division one match 8-7.Llew Coch A retained second spot thanks to a 10-5 victory at fellow-title hopefuls Skinners Arms. Llew Coch B consolidated their mid-table slot with a 8-6 home victory over Llew Coch Dinas.Table: White Lion (36 points), Llew Coch A (30), Skinners Arms (24), Tredegar Arms (21), Rugby Club A (21), Llew Coch B (18), White Horse (6), Dwynant (6), Llew Coch Dinas (6).Marston Skinners Arms joined Rugby Club B as joint leaders in division two, registering an impressive 11-4 win at Penrhos.Wynnstay Arms visited Llew Coch Ladies and secured a convincing 12-3 score line. Rotary Club St David’s Dayget-together
PLAS Dolguog Hotel was the venue for Machynlleth Rotary’s St David’s Day get-together.This was a chance for helpers of the club to meet those who Rotary have helped over the last two years.Attended by over 60 invited guests, including the mayor, Cllr Tony Jones, county councillor Michael Williams, president Roger Seagrave, after thanking all those who had helped the club in its endeavours, gave an address on the history of Rotary International, its role in the community and the achievements of the Machynlleth club in particular. Children representing the Cubs, Beavers, Scouts, Guides and the New Dyfi Players all gave a report on what donations from Rotary had meant to them, and the club was pleased to present a cheque for £750 to Future Play Machynlleth.The evening ended with a buffet and refreshments for all.British LegionTHE Legion met at the bowling club on Tuesday, 6 February, and their meeting was opened by chairman Stephen Doyle at 2.10pm. The Exhortation was given in English by Anthony Jones.The minutes of the December meeting were read out by Anthony Jones and were proposed by Evelyn Jones and seconded by Pauline Davies as a true record.The RBL Annual District Conference was held at Llandudno on 16 January.An email was received from Charles Byrne, director general of the RBL, who informed the branch of some of the future aims of the RBL. He said members are here because the legion is at the heart of a national network that sup-ports our armed forces community through thick and thin, ensuring that their unique contribution is never forgotten.The Christmas tombola raffle winners were: 1, Rhian Hughes, hamper; 2, Kath Holt, bottle of whiskey; 3, Debbie Spencer-Smith, hair voucher; 4, Jane Evans, Radox shower gel; 5, Judy Morris, box of chocolates; and 6, Heather Davies, bath products.Armed Forces Day will be held on 17 June at Caernarfon Castle. Secretary Anthony Jones informed members he had booked a 29-seater coach and that he would put up posters in the town for non-Legion members to come; the fare will be £12 per person.Sick visitor Elsbeth Mcauley told members that she had visited a gentleman in Cartre Dyfi and also Philip Jenkins. A get-well card was sent to Margaret Jeffries, and a card of sympathy to the family of Rev Richard Davies.Anthony Jones told members that their standard bearer and some members of the RWF were going to Belgium for the Centenary Commemoration of the Battle of Passchendaele (3rd Battle of Ypres).After a discussion, it was decided not to have a church service in the town, but to meet at the memorial at 11am and have a short service of remembrance there. Anthony was asked by members to send a card of thanks to Rev Canon Kath Rogers for the collection received from the remembrance service at St Peter’s Church .Poppy organiser Stephen Doyle said that the Machynlleth Army Cadets had collected £280 at the Co-op for the appeal. Major Ifan Price Edwards told members that the cadets had received an award from the Lord Lieutenant of Powys for being the sec-ond largest platoon in north and mid Powys. Major Ifan also told members that Jimmy Fleming of Machynlleth, Trevor Humphreys of Cymllinau and William Simkiss of Tywyn, who all received the Burma Star, had recently passed away.There was no further business and the meeting ended at 3.35pm with the Kohima Epitaph.
