Bowls news
Machynlleth took their place among this season’s top eight teams in the Welsh Bowling Association’s Welsh Club’s Championship Carruthers’ Shield, overcoming Carmarthen BC by four shots (77-73), following a nail-biting closing ends’ finish at Carmarthen.
They will now travel to Neath Port-Talbot County Borough to take on the formidable Pontrhydyfen, who have lifted Wales’ premiere club competition on many occasions.
However, returning to the bread and butter Montgomeryshire CBA County League at home on 27 July, Machynlleth (one point) were beaten for the fourth time, in league and cup, by this season’s nemesis, Newtown (six points), by eight shots and receive a severe jolt to their chances of retaining the division one title.
Maglona visited Llantsantffraid in the county league division two and, whilst they gained one point, they saw the home team take the lion’s share of six points from a 20-shot victory.
