Santa Special
CORRIS Railway’s Santa Specials, will run Saturday, 9 and Sunday, 19 December, every hour between 11am and 3pm.
Take a ride with the kids and meet Santa and his helpers - a present, soft drink and sweets for every child, mulled wine and a mince pie for adults.

Green Flag Celebrations
GERDDI Bro Ddyfi Gardens is celebrating winning the prestigious Green Flag Award, for the third year running.
The Keep Wales Tidy assessor says that it is an excellent example of a well-run and worth while community project, with a relaxed and welcoming feeling, and offers a healing environment by enabling hands-on therapeutic horticulture.
They also said it provides a haven for visitors and demonstrates an organic and wildlife approach to gardening, with many features that provide increased biodiversity for both flora and fauna, with a particular focus on attracting pollinators.
The hard-working volunteers who maintain and develop the gardens will be celebrating their achievements on Tuesday, 5 December, at 1pm, in the gardens (behind the Pump Track in Y Plas grounds) and would love people to come and join them.
There will be soup, jacket potatoes and toasted marshmallows.
Hear to Help Clinic
THE drop-in clinic will take place on Friday, 1 December, at the Care Centre, Forge Road, from 10am to midday.
NHS hearing-aid wearers can visit this Action on Hearing Loss Cymru service for friendly help with cleaning their aids, new tubes and free batteries.
The clinic is free and is run by trained volunteers on the first Friday of each month.
Christmas Lights
FOLLOWED by carols, crafts and refreshments at St Peter’s Church, Machynlleth Christmas town lights and tree will be lit on Friday, 1 December, at 6pm.
Mayor Cllr Tony Jones will turn the Christmas tree lights on and Father Christmas and Côr Meibion Machynlleth will also be there.
Charity Party
THERE will be a charity Christmas party in the clubhouse at the Bowling Club on Saturday, 9 December, with proceeds to Mach Firefighters and Blood Bikers’ Wales.
Entertainment will be provided by Richie Jones, and the evening will include a buffet and raffle.
Tickets cost £10 and can be purchased at the Bowling Club.
Pensioners’ Lunch Update
FOLLOWING last week’s announcement that this year’s pensioners’ lunch would be held at Plas Dolguog Hotel on Thursday, 14 December, noon to 3pm, mayor Cllr Tony Jones is pleased to announce that buses will leave the Plas at 11.45am and pick up outside the Red Lion, Spar stores, top chippie and Newtown Road bus shelter.
The mayor would like to see a good turnout and expresses his thanks to fellow councillors and staff for their support.
Tickets for the lunch, which includes the bus to the hotel, cost £3 and are available at the Plas.
The lunch is limited to the first 50.
Whist Fundraiser
MARGARET Evans and Liz Thomlinson have arranged a whist drive at the Corris Institute, Corris, on Thursday, 30 November, at 8pm.
All proceeds from the evening, including a raffle, will go to North West Cancer Research via the Machynlleth and District Committee.
Darts
THE Dyfi Valley Darts League’s results on 16 November, saw Dwynant retain top spot, closely followed by Penrhos.
