British Legion Raffle
ON 9 December at the Plas Christmas Fair, the winners of the RBL raffle were: 1st prize, a food hamper won by Llinos Griffiths, 2nd prize, bottle of port won by Judy Morris, 3rd prize, toiletries won by Sandra Farmery, 4th prize, cakes won by Elsbeth Mcauley, 5th prize, biscuits won by Ivor Evans, 6th prize, box of mince pies won by Tony Jones.
Bowls Meeting
OPENING the Machynlleth Bowling Club’s Annual Meeting 2017 on Thursday, 14 December, club president Michael Williams and members paid silent tribute to colleagues who had passed away during the last 12 months.
He paid very special tribute to Sylvia Rowlands and Phil Jenkins, both had given truly outstanding service to the club over many years.
He congratulated all the men and women bowlers, particularly the newer bowlers who, in large part, had accounted for the men’s and women’s teams’ successes.
He noted the stunning achievement in winning the county league for the 31st time.
Andrew Fleming had maintained his Welsh international status and Naomi Fleming had retained her place in the Welsh Women’s Under 25s’ squad.
In the Montgomeryshire CBA Championships, Andrew Fleming was once again crowed county singles champion and Barry Fleming and David Rowlands secured the county senior pairs title.
The ladies were only a little less successful as, in the Mid Wales Women’s Championships, Sue Mount took the runners-up silverware in the four-wood singles while Eileen Jones, Kate Jones and Jean Price returned with the runners-up prize in the two-wood triples.
Michael Rogers (chair) and Andrew Fleming (secretary) thanked the committee, sub-committees, staff and greenkeepers for their hard work and the organisers of the weekly whist drives for their tremendous charity fundraising.
Treasurer Barry Fleming, whose detailed annual accounts were received and approved with thanks, said that all financial targets had been met and, in this respect, he thanked bar-staff, cleaners and all others who’d helped in whatever way.
He extended special thanks to Debra Jones, Betty Fleming and the whist committee for continuing to use their particular fund-raising skills.
Officers elected were: Michael Williams (president), Julian Fenwick (vice-president), Michael Rogers (chairman), Eryl Jones (vice-chairman), Andrew Fleming (secretary), Barry Fleming (treasurer) and Thomas Jenkins (captain).
Committee members: Phil English, Eileen Jones, Betty Fleming, Alwyn Jones, Don Lewis, Hefin Ellis, Kevin Jones and Mark Rowlands.
Trustees re-elected were: Michael Williams, Michael Rogers, John L Williams and Andrew Fleming.
Also re-elected were the club’s auditors, Messer’s Major and Evans.
Mach Pumpers
FOLLOWING their Boxing Day evening gig at the local bowling club, the exciting Machynlleth Pumpers will take centre stage at the White Lion Hotel on New Year’s Eve, starting at 8pm.
School Panto
SUPERB performances from Ysgol Bro Hyddgen’s junior department brought rapturous applause from large and appreciative audiences as, on 15, 18 and 19 December, the children performed this year’s Christmas pantomime ‘Cinderella Rockerfella’.
Haf ap Roberts thanked the fantastic children and everyone for their support and assistance with the production.
Haf thanked the staff for directing the show, teaching the singers and dancers and for preparing the costumes and the sets.
She concluded by thanking the PTA, parents and friends for their support.
Children’s Party
MACHYNLLETH Bowling Club will be holding a children’s party on Saturday, 6 January, from 3.30pm until 6pm.
Entertainment by PJ the funky DJ including music, dancing and games, followed by food.
The party is open to the children and grandchildren, up to 11 years, of all members.
To assist with catering, please let the club know by 1 January.
Civic Society
THE Machynlleth and District Civic Society will be holding the first meeting of its executive committee of the New Year in the Tabernacle, Heol Penrallt, on Thursday, 18 January, at 7pm.
Pensioners’ Lunch
THE town mayor, Cllr Tony Jones, welcomed 50 senior citizens to Plas Dolguog Hotel for the mayor’s Christmas lunch on Thursday, 14 December.
He went on to thank the hotel’s management and staff, the town council and its staff, particularly Julie Humphreys for organising the afternoon’s seating arrangements, raffle and prize bingo.
Thanks were also extended to Lloyds Coaches and the coach driver, Dai Roberts, for all his kindness.
He then called on Cllr Michael Williams to say grace before the gathering sat down to enjoy a lovely meal of festive fare, which was delivered by Plas Dolguog’s friendly and helpful staff.
Following the meal, and some festive fun, Meirion V Jones of Y Dalar paid thanks to the mayor, town council and its staff and all at Plas Dolguog Hotel for the wonderful meal.
