Hear to Help
THE Hear to Help drop-in clinic will take place on Friday, 2 February, at the Care Centre, Forge Road, from 10am to midday.
NHS hearing-aid wearers can visit this Action on Hearing Loss Cymru service for friendly help with cleaning their aids, new tubes and free batteries.
The clinic is free and is run by trained volunteers on the first Friday of each month.
WI
THE members of Machynlleth WI are extending an invitation to all to join them for a talk by Dilys Williams to commemorate women’s right to vote 100 years ago and celebrate Machynlleth WI’s 100th birthday.
The talk will take place at St Peter’s Church Hall on Wednesday, 21 February, at 7pm.
Mach Maethlon
ORGANIZED by Mach Maethlon, the group’s popular and free-to-all cooking/baking classes continued at the local bowling club on Friday, 26 January, giving seasoned hands and complete beginners the opportunity to learn to cook a new dish and eating it together.
Dominoes
LEADERS Dovey and their closest rivals, Foresters B and Slaters, all secured valuable points to stay clear of the rest of the field after round nine of 14 in the Dyfi Valley Dominoes League.
Table (January 16): Dovey (69 points), Foresters B (66), Slaters (64), White Horse B (61), Foresters A (56), Wynnstay Llan. (55), White Horse A (49), Bowling Club (47).
Bowls
FLINT Indoor Bowls Club (12 points) retained second place in the Welsh Indoor Bowls Association’s Club Championship (northern section) with a 141-35 win at home to Bro Ddyfi IBC (two points) recently.
Although suffering defeat, Bro Ddyfi welcomed a number of new bowlers to give the squad a much needed boost.
Etifeddiaeth
ETIFEDDIAETH is pleased to host a special talk by Judith Alfrey of CADW in the auditorium MOMA Machynlleth on Wednesday, 7 February.
The talk, entitled Historic Towns in Mid Wales, starts at noon.
Gardens
GERDDI Bro Ddyfi Gardens held their first meeting of 2018 at the White Lion Hotel on Tuesday, 9 January.
Chair Phil Wheeler thanked everyone for attending.
Discussing funding sources, new manager Angela Paxton said that, following popular demand, she’d booked the market-day charity stall for Wednesdays on 18 April, 23 May, 27 June and 25 July.
Treasurer Jane Salisbury presented the monthly accounts and advised that it would be best to hold the AGM after the end of February.
This was agreed, and members thanked Jane for her sound advice.
Angela Paxton reported that volunteers have enjoyed laying a hedge at the group’s Plas grounds’ gardens.
She further reported that some work was needed to the paths.
Beavers and Cubs will be busy doing the national Great Garden Bird Watch in the gardens.
Midday Talk
YOU are cordially invited by MOMA Machynlleth to a talk by the artist Richard Deacon on Wednesday, 31 January.
The event, which is free, takes place in the auditorium at noon.
All are welcome to attend.
Pantomime
IT’S pantomime time in Machynlleth - oh yes it is!
The New Dyfi Players next production will be ‘The Three Musketeers’ and it will be performed during February half term (Thursday 15 to 17 Saturday).
There are three evening performances.
Doors open 6.30pm to start at 7pm There is a Saturday matinee when doors open at 1.30pm to start at 2pm.
The pantomime is being held in Ysgol Bro Hyddgen, high school campus.
The tickets will be on sale at Miscellannea and Dyfi wholefoods from Thursday 1 February.
