Enterprise Day
AS part of its on-going Community Engagement Initiative, Machynlleth Jobcentreplus has established an event to support local entrepreneurs promoting their recently established businesses.
On Wednesday, 28 March, a selection of Dyfi Valley based businesses, all of whom received advice and support from Machynlleth Jobcentre and its partners, have been invited to promote, advertise and sell their products whilst also being on hand to give customers the benefit of their first-hand experience in establishing a business.
Also on hand will be professional advisers who will be happy to speak to anybody who would like support or is considering branching out into self-employment and would like advice on how to start.
The event will be officially opened by Sam Browne, Managing Director of Plant-i Ltd, and will run from 10am-3pm.
A warm welcome is extended to all.

Gardeners’ Meet
CHAIR Phil Wheeler welcomed members of Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens to their monthly meeting at the White Lion Hotel on 6 March.
He thanked Anna Fisher for coming on board as the new treasurer and paid tribute to Jane Salisbury on her huge commitment in looking after the group’s accounts for a number of years.
An update was given by the group’s co-ordinator, Angela Paxton, on arrangements for dementia friendly training. This will be an important addition to the group’s caring ethos.
Angela said how appreciative she was to former co-ordinator Kate Doubleday for the smooth changeover.
Members agreed that, in light of improved funding, there would be more days available for volunteers at the Plas-based gardens. Already more volunteers had attended and a good covering of wood chips had been spread on the gardens.

International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day was on 8 March, and the community in Machynlleth planned an event to coincide with Market Day in the town. They celebrated 100 years since some (but not all) women got the vote. They invited people to wear suffragette-themed fancy dress and to join them at the clock tower at midday. The theme was “#PressForProgress” and they campaigned for progress on the rights of women and the many disenfranchised groups in our society, specifically: Stopping sexual harassment, votes for refugees and prisoners and votes for 16 and 17 year olds in general and local elections. The event was an initiative of the Machynlleth Labour Party branch, but supporters from across the whole political spectrum were encouraged to join. Pictured chained to the clock railings are: Linda Moseley, rail maritime and transport worker; Liz Lavelle, Machynlleth Labour Party; J Whiteley, Independent; Judith Wright, Machynlleth Labour Party and Sarah Reisz, Machynlleth Labour Party (pictured).
