Windband

THE Windband held its AGM after band practice on Tuesday last week.

Sally Marshall, musical director, said she was delighted with the performances the band had given over the year.

The standard of playing has become much higher and audiences have been very appreciative. David Kyle, chairman, thanked the officers and everyone for making rehearsals and performances so enjoyable. Serving officers were re-elected.

Golf Club

ON a changeable Saturday in April, men’s captain Paddy Killop and ladies’ captain Jean Preston held their drive-in at Machynlleth Golf Club.

A nine-hole Stapleford competition was won by Jason Kohler with the ladies’ game being won by Helen Lewis.

Following an enjoyable game of golf, a lunch of chips, sausages and baked beans followed and was enjoyed by all.

British Legion

THE last meeting was opened by vice-chairman Sylvia Whittaker and the Exhortation was given by Anthony Jones.

The minutes of the March meeting were read out and proposed and seconded by Gwyn Roberts as a true record.

Major Ifan Price Edwards said two members would represent Tywyn area, and two members would represent the Machynlleth Branch at the GP90. All questions asked are to be answered by the chairman next month, all present agreed.

Standard Bearer Gwyn Roberts informed the branch that he attended the Service for the Laying-Up and Dedication of Standards at Abertillery.

Correspondence – Proposed agenda for annual conference in Belfast.

Armed Forces Day – Organiser Anthony Jones asked Major Ifan Price Edwards if he could ask the Machynlleth Cadets how many were going on the coach on 30 June to Llandudno.

Centenary of WWI – Chairman of the RWF Gwyn Roberts told members that he hoped to sort out the fountain for the Commemorative Garden at the Plas rose garden.

Gwyn has asked various organisations for their help. All members present agreed that they would support the commemorative garden.

Carnival – Members said they would like to take part in the carnival again this year.

Hear to Help

THE Hear to Help drop-in clinic will take place this Friday, 4 May, at the Care Centre, Forge Road, from 10am to midday.

NHS hearing-aid wearers can visit this Action on Hearing Loss Cymru service for friendly help with cleaning their aids, new tubes and free batteries. The clinic is free and is run by trained volunteers on the first Friday of each month.

Stall success

THANKS have been given to all who helped make Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens’ plant stall on Wednesday, 18 April, such a success.

The stall raised an excellent £174. The money will be used to further enhance the group’s Cae Glas, Plas-based gardens.

Repair and Share

THERE will be a Repair and Share fest at Plas Machynlleth on Sunday, 13 May. Go along and learn more about the aims and objectives.

There will be repair experts on hand to share their knowledge.

Bowls

FOLLOWING the recent meeting of bowlers, when the Machynlleth men’s and women’s bowling teams’ and competitions’ captains and organisers presented their reports on the 2017 season and took advice for the coming season, the bowlers are keen to take to the green for the Montgomeryshire round of the Welsh Bowling Association’s Carruthers’ Shield.

The county round will see Machynlleth travel to Newtown on Saturday, 26 May.

Midday talk

THE popular series of lunchtime market day talks at the Tabernacle, Heol Pen’rallt, continue on Wednesday, 16 May, with a talk by the artist Morfydd Ransom-Hall at noon.

U3A

THE next monthly meeting of U3A will be held in the bowling club at 2pm on Friday, 18 May, and features guest speaker Dilys Williams on the Magic Lantern.
