RNLI AGM

THE AGM of the RNLI fund-raising Group will be held on Monday, 10 October at 11am, at New Quay Yacht club. New members are welcome.

Walkers

THE New Quay Walkers had a memorable coastal walk south of Fishguard on Saturday, 10 September. It started with 12 walkers and finished with 22 and a dog thanks to some confusing instructions on the meeting point! However, everyone caught up by the lunch stop.

About a mile from Carregwastad Point, the walkers had the opportunity to look down on some small beaches, inaccessible on foot, to see adult seals sunbathing on the sand and others in the water, together with a number of newborn pups.

It was in this area the last invasion of the British Isles took place in 1797. The small French contingent landed near Carregwastad Point and much of the action took place around Llanwnda, which the walkers visited in the afternoon on their return route to Goodwick.

Thanks to the poor discipline of the French soldiers and the action of the local militia aided by local womenfolk armed with pitchforks and led by Jemima Nicholas, the invaders soon surrendered and were led off to prison.

The next walk, on Saturday, 29 October, is a coastal walk from Aberaeron to New Quay. Meet at the bus stop in Park Street, Uplands Square, 9.45am for the T5 bus to Aberaeron. Further details from Glyn on 01545 561285.
