THE latest community news from Newcastle Emlyn

Vicar

ON Sunday, 12 May, Rev Canon Dewi Roberts announced to the four congregations in the area, that he has cared for the past 17 years, that he and his wife Debbie were about to leave them and move to Llanddarog, on the other side of Carmarthen.

This was naturally a great shock, as over the years that he and Debbie have been with them, they have come to love them and appreciate all the good things that they have done in the various parishes (Newcastle Emlyn, Cenarth, Troedyraur, Llandyfriog – and until a few years ago, Bryngwyn).

He has been a most conscientious and energetic minister; not only conducting services, but visiting the sick and elderly and those in trouble.

He has built up and maintained good relations with the various chapels in the town and also with the Roman Catholic church; been a presence in the schools, with youth groups and at civic events.

His wife Debbie has worked with young people and at one time ran the Rainbows and helped with the Brownies.

All good things must come to an end, however, and after a longer than usual incumbency, Dewi and Debbie feel that it is time to move on.

It is hoped to show their appreciation to them by making a presentation at an event in August, before they leave at the beginning of September.
