Tivyside Pony club
Members of the Tivyside Pony Club visited Cotts Equine Hospital and Veterinary Centre in Narberth (pictured).
They were given a talk on ‘What to do in an Emergency’ by Cotts director Dr Shaun A McKane. Following the talk, they went on a guided tour of the hospital with Veterinary Surgeon Freya Rees-Jones. Members saw the operating theatre and the stables.
Over-50s Friendship Club
WITH no one taking on the role of chairman, secretary, treasurer or programme organiser, there are fears that the club could be forced to come to an end next year. The club currently has around 60 members and membership is increasing, however the club, that’s celebrating its 25 years, could come to an abrupt end.
“We need fresh blood, so to speak,” said current secretary, John Piddlesden, whose wife Jenny is the treasurer.
“We need members to take on these roles as without them, the club cannot go on. They are unpaid roles, but if we can’t find people to take on these roles then we will be forced to close the club down.”
The club meets every Thursday between 2pm and 4pm at the Holy Trinity Church Community Hall. The members have tea and biscuits, play games, watch films, have guest speakers and occasionally go out for lunch.
“The club is very important. The majority of members come from Newcastle Emlyn and a few travel. On average, we have around 30 to 40 people at every meeting and it’s going from strength to strength.
It will be quite a loss and people will miss their Thursday afternoon entertainment.Everyone knows one another and has a good natter, and it’s a real community effort. It will be a huge social loss,” added John who has been a member for six years.
John says that the club has been looking for people to take on these roles for the past three years, but at every annual general meeting, the situation remains unchanged.
“Primarily, it’s an age thing. The club doesn’t entertain people under 50. Most members are retired or have undertaken these roles before and don’t want the responsibility,” said John.
