Neuadd Goffa

THE AGM was held in the hall on 13 June.

Officers elected were chair, Kevin Goodwin; vice-chair, Goronwy Edwards; secretary, Pat Bates; treasurer, Mike Daniel; assistant treasurer, Peter Edwards; hall booking secretary, Enid Welsh (01970 626187); hall manager, Brian Griffiths.

Committee members Margaret Evans, Caroline Jones, Dylan Lewis, Cllr Steve Davies, Cllr Lloyd Edwards, Cllr Charlie Kingsbury, Cllr Brenda Haines and Dylan Jones were returned en bloc.

Trustees are Goronwy Edwards, Brenda Haines and Peter Edwards.

The chair thanked members for their attendance and the extraordinary amount of voluntary work contributed to the successful running of the hall on behalf of the committee for the benefit of residents of all ages and users from further afield.

Pat gave special thanks to Brian Griffiths for his untiring voluntary work managing the venue, not only in his work in preparing the hall for users but also his efforts in managing the upkeep of the building.

Special thanks was also afforded to Enid for her work in dealing with the many numerous daily and evening bookings.

Treasurer Mike, who has given the committee over 40 years of service, was again thanked for his voluntary service with the presentation of a watch.

The treasure’s report showed a healthy balance from the hall fees which was self-financing without grant aid, for which the committee once again gave thanks to Mike and his assistant, Peter.

It was reported that bookings for hall use were up and that the snooker club is thriving with a make-up of both young and old users totalling 31 members.

Pat spoke of her concern not only for Neuadd Goffa but all local clubs and societies experiencing difficulty in recruiting younger voluntary workers, with the need for residents to come forward to replace those hard-working members retiring from their positions.

Hopefully, consideration would be considered by those taking early retirement as these voluntary clubs and societies as with Neuadd Goffa are adding so much to the well-being of their users, she said.

It was reported that the committee had received a letter of thanks from the unfortunately unsuccessful Save Bodlondeb campaign for the use of the hall for their packed public meetings prior to the residential home’s closure, and also for the committee’s support.

The secretary also reported that she had made an enquiry for a quote from HR Flooring, Swansea, for a block wooden floor to replace carpet as requested by some members and that a resulting representative had called at the hall and forwarded a quote to her.

Brenda informed members that the carpet should remain as it is, conducive to comfort for the yoga and other hall users.
