Mormons
LEADERSHIP of Porthmadog Mormons continues to be a family affair.
Hugh Jones came to the Porthmadog Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2007 and was called as the Branch President in 2009.
He served in that office until his son Christopher returned with his family from USA in 2011, to live – like his father – in Criccieth.
Shortly after his arrival Christopher Jones took over as branch president.
Last Sunday Christopher was formally ‘released’ from the calling after seven and a half years in office by Stake President Jared Ireland – a stake is similar to an Anglican diocese, in this case covering the whole of North Wales and a bit of England around Chester, the Wirral and Runcorn.
President Ireland then called Hugh Jones to serve again as branch president.
Mormons serve in various callings to run the Church, and are all completely unpaid.
President Hugh Jones commented: “I have no real worries.
“The members of this branch are lovely, lovely people. But I have a hard act to follow; I know I’m expected to say things like this, but my son was a brilliant President and has set a very high leadership standard.”
Visitors are always welcome to Church meetings to worship and learn about Jesus Christ.
