THE April meeting of Porthmadog WI started in traditional fashion with members singing Jerusalem. Then secretary, Maggie Barbier took members through a short business meeting.

Upcoming events were noted and names taken for those wishing to attend before committee member Eve Price welcomed the speaker, the Rev Nick Golding, who had come to talk about his life and how he had found his way to becoming a ‘distinctive deacon’ in the Church in Wales.

He described a fascinating and varied life, perhaps not always an easy one, full of ups and downs as most lives are but one in which he had met many people, made many real friends, and throughout kept and strengthened his faith.

It was a talk that inspired, amused and educated as now members know, as perhaps they had not known before, exactly what the role of a deacon is and the difference between a ‘distinctive deacon’ and a ‘transitional deacon’. It was both a delight and a privilege to listen to him.

Before sitting down to enjoy a cup of tea and a cake, Maggie reminded members that the May meeting will be a discussion of the proposals for the Association AGM and the June meeting will be an afternoon trip to Felin Uchaf with Tea.

Names will be taken at the next meeting.
