Retirement

A TALGARREG haulage contractor has reached the end of the road after 53 years in business.John Evans has decided to retire at the age of 75 after being a familiar face on the local farming scene for over half a century.

“I’ve seen a fair bit of change over the past 53 years,” he told the Cambrian News. “When I started back in 1964 a gallon of diesel cost three shillings 10d – it’s £1 a litre now!

“Now I’ve retired I suppose I’ll miss going to the mart, but there comes a time for everything to stop.”

Mr Evans, whose main interest is vintage tractors, said he was looking forward to devoting more time to his beloved hobby.
