THE next walk is scheduled for 11 August and has been organised by Jac, Dewi and Lynda.

The walk is entitled The Sabrina Trail - Pumlumon Fawr via Hafren.

The original name of the River Severn was Sabrina, named after a Roman goddess.

The walk starts in the Rhydybenwch forestry plantation and follows the course of the River Severn back to its source high up on the slopes of Pumlumon Arwystli.

From here, the group will head to the summit of Pumlumon Fawr, passing the source of the Wye.

Benjamin Malkin stated in 1803 that Pumlumon was the most dangerous mountain in Wales on account of the boggy terrain underfoot. He said that it should only be attempted in the company of a local guide who lived in a hovel at the foot of the mountain.

The walk is to last approximately seven hours and is graded a very strenuous walk, covering 13 miles with an ascent of 666m/2,188ft.

The group will meet outside Y Talbot at 8.30am and return to Hafod Hotel, Devil’s Bridge, afterwards for a glass of ‘Pimmslumon’.

Contribution to the Pimms will be much appreciated. A bar meal option is available. To reserve your place, call Dafydd on 07748 675798. There are 25 places available in all.

If you would like to become a member of Clwb Cerdded Tregaron Walking Club then call Dafydd, the secretary, on 01974 298150.
