Clwb Cinio
AN excellent lunch was enjoyed by 40 members on Wednesday, 22 February, at the Bowls Club. Delyth extended the club’s sympathy to Prof Tegwyn Jones on the loss of his wife, Joy and a card has been sent. She also congratulated Lyndon Lloyd on his MBE and he was presented with a card signed by all the members.
In Mary Lewis’ talk she told members about her early life in London and her evacuation to live with her grandmother in Cellan. She went to the local primary school and to Lampeter for her secondary education. Mary originally intended to go into service, but as her grandmother was always helping with the sick people in the village, Mary helped from an early age with all the tasks including laying out bodies. She then decided to train as a nurse after taking her O Levels and the first year of the A Level course. She did two years training in the Orthopaedic Hospital in Cardiff and then chose to go to Morriston Hospital to complete her SRN training. Next she took a midwifery course in Swansea and progressed to being a district nurse in Llanarth and Mydroilyn, before completing her training as a health visitor at col-lege in Cardiff. She returned to Ceredigion and, after 38 years service, she retired in 2000. She talked about the changes in the NHS over the years – the successes and the lack of improvement in some areas.
Next month’s lunch will be in Y Talbot on Wednesday, 22 March. Contact Delyth (01974 298593) if you would like to attend.
Angling Association
THE annual dinner of Tregaron Angling Association was held at Y Talbot. Many members, riparian owners and supporters attended the evening which saw the presentation of the clubs trophies following the meal (pictured right). The winner of the Edward Pant Shield for the best bag and Gareth Davies Cup for the heaviest fish in the club competition went to James Raw. James Raw also won the Centenary Challenge Cup, donated by the Bulman family of Delfryn, Llwynpiod, Tregaron, when he took the best bag on Teifi Pools at a celebratory centenary match held in June last year. The Moc Morgan Appreciation Cup was presented to Gerwyn Evans in appreciation of his sup-port over recent times, but also as a representation of the clubs appreciation of all the riparian owners, whose contribution the club would not be without. The winner of the Talbot Hotel Boat Challenge Shield was won by Jason Hockenhull, who was unfortunately not able to attend the dinner.
Carnival
THIS year’s carnival will be held on Saturday, 29 July, in the mart.
Walking Club
THE next walk is scheduled for 11 March and is called ‘The legend of Siôn y Gôf Dylife’.This area is quiet now but it wasn’t always like this. Chilling deeds, public punishment and the legend of Siôn y Gôf is the gruesome inspiration for this circular walk which takes us above Dylife along Glyndwr’s Way National Trail to Glaslyn and an ascent of Foel Fadian at 454m (weather permitting). The elevated position of the area means the group should get some great views with plenty of space for imaginations to go back in time. The walk is graded a grade B – Moderate walk which should last approximately four hours and is over a distance of 7.5miles with an Ascent of 450m, and the meeting point is at 9am outside Y Talbot and the leader is Lucy Swannell, 01974 261 789. Should you wish to become a member of Clwb Cerdded Tregaron Walking Club then please feel free to give Dafydd the secretary a ring on 01974 298 150.
