WI
THE September meeting was arranged at the last minute because the speaker was unable to come.
However, Ivor Thomas, who had spent all of his life working as a projectionist, stepped in valiantly and showed members three vintage films from his collection.
The first two, Country Women and Summer on the Farm, had been produced by the Ministry of Information in 1942.
The former outlined the history of the WI movement and highlighted their contribution to the war effort, while the second showed hay making and food production on farms in the Manchester area.
A Letter from Wales was introduced by a very young-looking Donald Houston who talked about the beauty of the country and the railway line which brought visitors to Wales.
Altogether, it was an enjoyable and enlightening evening.
The speaker at the next meeting, Julie Lancaster, will introduce the group to ‘Zumba from a chair’. It will be held at the Memorial Hall on Wednesday, 11 October, at 7.30pm.
The group always offers a warm welcome to new members.
