The service on Sunday, 29 October will be held in Bryntirion Centre, at the earlier time of 2pm. The preacher will be the Rev Roger Hides.
Tregaron Walking Club
The next walk is scheduled for Saturday, 4 November and not 11 November as previously printed in the schedule and has been organised by Jim Cowie 01974 831639.
This is the walk about The Legend of Cantre’r Gwaelod between Borth and Ynyslas. The highlight will be to see the remains of the submerged forest exposed at low tide on the beaches at Borth and Ynyslas. Dated at some 4,500-6,000 years old they represent a time when the sea levels were much lower and when the land stretched well out into what is now Cardigan Bay. Was this the ‘Welsh Atlantis’, the legendary sunken kingdom of Cantre’r Gwaelod described in folklore, literature and song?
The reason for the change of dates is because the lowest tide will be in the afternoon on the 4th.
The walk starts from outside Y Talbot at 11.15am and the walk is to last approximately three hours and is graded an easy walk which covers six miles with an ascent of 150ft/45m.
Women’s Institute
The October meeting was a Zumba session with Julie Lancaster, who was supposed to introduce us to ‘Zumba from a Chair’. However, that was not to be as Julie came in, took one look the members and decided that they were all fit enough to Zumba standing up although she did significantly reduce the speed of the music!
Most members had a go and were encouraged by those who decided to remain in their chairs! The evening was great fun and members were all encouraged by Julie to find their nearest Zumba session and ‘have a go’.
The vote of thanks to the guest and the tea hostesses was given by Stephanie and the raffle prize, donated by Bronwen, was won by Jan Weech.
The next meeting on Wednesday, 8 November will be held in the Memorial Hall starting at 7pm. It will be the Annual General Meeting and will be followed by a talk from Ian Tillotson entitled ‘My Recent Travels’.
Clwb Cinio
THE LATEST lunch was in the Bowls Club where members had an excellent meal. This was the last time that Glenys will be cooking for them as she has other responsibilities.
The entertainment was a talk by Delyth Morris Jones. She said that a home without books was very dull and she described how their bookcase used to be two orange crates nailed together with a curtain hung in front of it to keep the dust from the fire off the books. She talked about books that meant a lot to her and her family, and gave anecdotes about each book.
The Christmas shopping trip will be to Trostre on Thursday, 16 November and the coach will leave the square at 10am. Please let Delyth know if you would like to go on the trip.
The next lunch will be in Y Talbot on Wednesday, 22 November, with Donald Morgan attending.
Coffee evening
The Annual Coffee evening held in aid of the Ceredigion Association of the Blind arranged by the ladies of Tregaron and Llanddewi Brefi, was held at the Memorial Hall.
Diana Jones, chairperson, who has made an excellent recovery after receiving major surgery, welcomed everyone especially the president for the evening, Cyril Evans accompanied by his mother Dorothy Evans. He spoke of the importance of retaining the local facilities for the sick, the elderly and the infirm, before declaring the evening open for the sale of the items on the well laden stalls. Megan Dark, carnival queen graciously presented the president with a gift.
Maldwyn Jones, chairman of the association, spoke of the hard work and support given by both communities, which was greatly appreciated, and the proceeds would go towards the activities supporting the needs of the blind and partially sighted living in Ceredigion.
A vote of thanks to all was given by Mary Lewis – to the president for his presence and generous donation, to all who had brought and bought items on the stalls as well as many financial donations and raffle prizes.
At the end of the evening Ifan Jones acted as auctioneer and successfully sold everything he could lay his hands on.
A cheque of £1,500 had been sent to the Ceredigion Association for the Blind.
