On Wednesday, 28 February, 29 members had a very nice lunch in the dining room of Y Talbot. The event was filmed by two members of Y Byd ar Bedwar team, who discussed local matters, and the S4C programme will go out on 13 March at 9.30pm.

The afternoon’s entertainment was a talk by Jez Danks, who moved to Ceredigion in 1971 and worked on farms before joining Ceredigion Museum as curator of farm machinery and tools. He brought a violin, with family history, and played two items and accompanied the singing of Calon Lân.

The next lunch will be at Y Talbot on Wednesday, 28 March when the children from Ysgol Henry Richard, Campws Cynradd will be entertaining.

Ffair Garon 2018

ORGANISERS have announced with regret that they will be unable to prepare, set up, and manage the traditional Ffair Garon event on the Spring Bank Holiday this year.

This situation is due to other commitments, social and professional, and also the lack of practical support. They hope to be able to reinstate the event in 2019.

Organisers added that they urgently require practical assistance from members of the community who are willing to assist with all aspects of the management of the event, and from stallholders and traders to ensure the essential modest income.

They will be happy to hear from anyone willing to join the small management team in a volunteer capacity, working towards Ffair Garon 2019.

English Methodist Church

On Mothering Sunday, 11 March, the service will be held in the Memorial Hall, led by Rev Marty Presdee and beginning at 2.30pm. A warm welcome to you all.

THE club got its year-long Pumlumon Fawr Challenge off to a perfect start last weekend. In partnership with fellow Walkers are Welcome club, the Devil’s Bridge Walking Club, and ten local businesses, the club was pleased to see all 25 participants reaching the summit and returning down safely.

The group managed to scale the 2468ft mountain, facing challenging weather conditions including hail, snow and wind. Supported by leaders from both walking clubs and assisted by Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team, walkers had a day to remember, making new friends and enjoying the Cambrian Mountains landscape.

The theme for the first walk of five was Pumlumon Poetry, with most walkers presenting a piece of poetry. A specially designed ‘chair’ was created by local woodworker Owain Pugh culminating in a mini ‘eisteddfod’ following the seven-mile walk at the George Borrow Hotel. Here the chaired bard o Pumlumon, Edryd Jenkins, was unveiled at a short ceremony after the walk.

The aptly-named George Borrow route offered many people an opportunity to climb the highest peak in Ceredigion for the first time, including Ceredigion MP Ben Lake.

“I am so glad to finally be able to say that I’ve climbed Ceredigion’s highest peak - and the snow-capped summit of Pumlumon certainly didn’t disappoint,” said Mr Lake.

“The combination of the fresh mountain air, the tranquility, and the breathtaking views made it an experience I shall never forget.”

Many walkers are now looking forward to completing the other four walks, each being named after local, national and international characters, legends and mountaineers (see map above).

The Pumlumon Fawr challenge aims to raise the profile of this wonderful mountain and also much-needed funds for the Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team. To join the next four walks contact Clwb Cerdded Tregaron on www.clwbcerddedtregaron.site
