THE latest community news from Tywyn
Rotary Club
On Thursday, 5 July, The Rotary Club of Tywyn was pleased to invite Victoria Beech from Blind Veterans UK Ltd to give the club a presentation on the work done by the charity for the benefit of blind and vision-impaired ex-service men and women.
The work of the charity offers blind veterans help in the following areas: rehabilitation, training and skills development.
Blind veterans are helped to accept and adapt to their loss of sight and to re-learn life skills such as reading, cooking, using computers and public transport.
Veterans will receive help with specialist equipment to help with every-day living.
Help is also provided to adapt homes to make them safer and more comfortable for blind veterans.
Veterans learn new skills and rediscover previous interests.
Many other social activities are organized to help them to become more sociable and make new friends.
Blind Veterans UK was founded in 1915 and since that time has helped many thousands of veterans to regain their independence and enjoy life again by showing people that there is life beyond sight loss.
The club president Nancy Clarke thanked Victoria for an inspirational and interesting presentation.
As is the normal practice with guest speakers at club meetings, president Nancy presented Victoria with a cheque for £100 towards the work of Blind Veterans UK (see picture above).
