Concert

A CONCERT will be held at Neuadd Pendre, tonight (19 July).

It will begin at 7.30pm and features Declan Poole and Aaron Hawthorne, a couple of young performers who have both recently won the accolade of ‘Young Theatre Organist of the Year’ with the American Theatre Oragan Society.

Inner Wheel and Rotary Club

MEMBERS of the Tywyn Inner Wheel and Rotary Clubs attended the Meirionnydd Special Riding Group Open Day at Arthog on 10 July in support of this valuable service.

An award was made to honour Di Derry who died last December.

Di was a member of the Inner Wheel Club and a trustee of the MSRG. She was an experienced and highly-valued member of the volunteer team.

The award will be presented annually to the adult who has most improved. This year it was presented by Di’s widower John Derry to Katie Collinswood.

A cheque was given by Maureen Cartright, who organised a skittles evening in Tywyn, in order to raise money in support of the riding group.

The Meirionnydd branch is part of a national organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities through the provision of horse riding, carriage driving, show jumping and vaulting.

Through a network of volunteer groups it provides opportunities for therapy, achievement, and enjoyment, improving health, well-being and self confidence.

It is an organisation which depends entirely on voluntary help, legacies and donations.

History Society

ON Monday, 9 July, the usual meeting was replaced by an enjoyable History Hunt of 34 miles highlighting historical attractions of the district by solving nine clues en route.

Teams were friendly but competitive and the contest was won by Ann and Ivor by a very narrow margin.

The society would like to thank the Talyllyn Railway, Corris Craft Centre, Aberdyfi Information Centre for their help in setting up the clues.

The August meeting will be replaced by a trip to Aberaeron, Lampeter and afternoon tea at the Hafod Hotel at Devil’s Bridge on Wednesday, 29 August.

The coach will be leaving Tywyn Coop at 8.30am, returning just after 6pm. There will be pick-ups along the route, including Machynlleth at 8.50am and others en route by arrangement.
