The Rotary Club of Tywyn has been awarded a citation by Rotary International President for 2017/2018.
President Nancy Clarke attended the Rotary Club district conference in Wrexham to receive a citation from the president of Rotary International Ian Riseley.
The annual citation is awarded to the club that, in the opinion of the governors, had achieved notable success in making a difference to the lives of people all over the world.
Citation awards are awarded to clubs if they satisfy a number of criteria.
Rotary International expects that club fees should be paid on time and that clubs should participate in events to promote Rotary International projects during the year.
Clubs should be seen to be promoting their own activities and be seen to be actively increasing club membership.
A special recognition award promoted by District Governor, Beryl Cotton was for the Race the Train project that was regarded to be a particularly important way to raise funds to make a difference to people’s lives.
Beryl attended the Race the Train event in 2017 and was particularly impressed by the way that the event was brought to the attention of the general public through an increase in tourism generated for Tywyn and the surrounding area.
At the regular Tywyn Rotary Club meeting, president Nancy thanked all club members for their hard work and perseverance that earned the club this prestigious award.
