Inner Wheel Club

MEMBERS of Tywyn Inner Wheel were welcomed to the December meeting by the president, Meg Jones, which was held in the Talyllyn Railway restaurant.

They were joined for the evening by five guests and they all enjoyed the Christmas dinner.

One of the guests was Tudur Jones, the local organist who had prepared some Christmas carols for them to sing.

Thanking Tudur for the entertainment, president Meg presented him with a cheque for £50 which he donated to the NSPCC.

At the next meeting on 13 February, they will be joined by members of Tywyn Rotary Club.

The speaker for the evening will be David Maidment on behalf of the Railway Children’s charity, which is their District Overseas Charity of the year.

Rotary Club

ACCORDING to a recent study carried out in Baltimore USA, Rotary International members gave a staggering 47,000,000 volunteer hours in 2019 which is equal to approximately 27,000 fulltime workers worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Tywyn has played a small role in this figure; for a relatively small club, its fundraising and charitable donations are considerable.

The members work together to support local and international communities with its biggest and most well known event being Race The Train.

This is an annual event organised by members of Tywyn Rotary which sees runners pitted against The Talyllyn Railway through the picturesque Fathew Valley.

Other fundraising events organised by Tywyn Rotary members include the Santa Sleigh which tours around Tywyn and neighbouring villages in the run up to Christmas, a Know Your Blood Pressure day in conjunction with the Stroke Association and collections for Shelterbox, is an international disaster relief project. They usually meet on Thursday at 7pm at the Proper Gander, Tywyn for a meal and their programme includes a range of topical guest speakers and social events.
