Inner Wheel

THE club met at the golf club in Aberdyfi on Thursday, 12 January.

President Jane Pearson welcomed members, guests and an special warm welcome to new member, Sheila Lowe. The club’s most senior member, Carys Webb, is a patient at Tywyn Hospital and everyone wished her well.

During the business meeting it was agreed to donate money to three charities this month, namely £200 to When you wish upon a star, dedicated to granting special wishes to seriously ill children, this is the District 18 chairman’s chosen charity; £100 to Beat a charity providing help and support for those suffering from eating disorders chosen by the Association President and £100 to Crimebeat which provides assistance to young unemployed and Youths who have problems in Gwynedd, these people are encouraged to get involved in music through joining bands, recording music and becoming involved in community projects.

Following a meal the speaker Dr Libby Andrews now Deputy Lord Lieutenant spoke very enthusiastically of her role as High Sheriff of Gwynedd.

Members were very interested in all the role entails from sitting in court with High Court judges, performing civic duties to encouraging voluntary work in the county.

Dr Andrews did say she was amazed at the way people give freely of their time and the effort they put in. It was obvious this was an honour which Dr Andrews had thoroughly enjoyed.

Megan Reynolds gave the vote of thanks. President Jane then presented Dr Andrews with the cheque for £100 for Crimebeat. The raffle was won by Marilyn Lycett.

South Meirionnydd Older People's Forum

THE next meeting will take place on Wednesday, 25 January, at 2pm, with a police theme.

The guest speaker will be former councillor Henry Jones of Tywyn, speaking on his vast experience as a senior police officer.

He was followed by two local constables explaining a new fraud initiative concerning the police, who are implementing a scheme which helps to protect the elderly and the vulnerable from overcharging by unscrupulous tradesmen. It appears that if you get a quote for a job around the house, the police will check it out for you.

The members will know more about the scheme following the meeting.

Anyone from the region is welcome to attend to listen to a worthwhile debate.

At the November meeting we had as guest speaker, Stuart Harmes.

Area assistant director of therapy services, who gave a very in-depth report of the running of the Betsi Cadwaladre Health Board who remained for the whole meeting to answer personal questions and queries from our members.
