British Heart Foundation

ON SATURDAY, 4 November, the Tywyn and Aberdyfi Branch of the British Heart Foundation held its second craft fair of 2017 at Y Ganolfan in Bryncrug.

The event was once again a great success and raised £675.71 on the day, including £119 from the sale of raffle tickets, £87.50 from stallholder fees, and £208.11 on the door, with children, as usual, being admitted free of charge.

BHF committee member Barbara Jones had a stall selling a range of goods and donated her entire proceeds of £100 (including £30 in donations) to the BHF, and Maureen Shambrook’s stall selling cakes, pies, jams and other produce raised a further £70.

Thanks were given to Tracy Jones for organising the event and to BHF committee members and friends for providing support.

Six winning raffle tickets were drawn on the day, with one prize remaining unclaimed; the remaining winning ticket is a pink ticket, number 365.

The winning ticket holder should telephone 07999 305680 to claim their prize (on production of their winning ticket).

If unclaimed by 30 November the prize will be used in future prize draws.

This event rounded off a busy 2017 for the local BHF branch with many other successful events having taken place throughout the year including a coffee morning in Tywyn in February, a golf tournament at Aberdyfi Golf Club in April, an earlier craft fair in Bryncrug and a bingo evening at Tywyn’s Neuadd Pendre in May,

Other events included Margaret Evans’ afternoon tea and house-to-house collections in Tywyn and surrounding villages in June, a stall at Bryncrug Carnival and street collections in Aberdyfi and Machynlleth in July, and in August a stall at the Meirionnydd County Show which raffled a beautiful homemade patchwork quilt given to the foundation by Anna Davies.

There was also a stall at Abergynolwyn Show, a stall at Bryncrug Show, and street collections in Tywyn.

These events and other contributions have raised over £7,500 so far this year and the foundation would like to take this opportunity of saying a big thank you to everyone who has supported them throughout the year and helped to make 2017 such a success.

Finally, a reminder that the next BHF branch committee meeting will take place at 7pm on Wednesday, 17 January in the meeting room of Tywyn Baptist Church.

Famous faces

TWO famous faces will be on hand to help bring sparkle to this year’s Christmas lights switch-on in Tywyn.

Anna and Elsa from Frozen will be performing on Tywyn High Street at 4.30pm on Saturday, 25 November before Santa makes an appearance an hour later.

The lights, turned on by Tywyn council chair Alun Wyn Evans, will be lit up at 6pm.

Organised by the town council and the Tywyn Events Organisation, the switch-on party will also see every child under the age of 11 handed a present and a festive disco for everyone to enjoy.

The event starts at 4.15pm.
